Beren, I'm proud of you. I see courage in your words and when I started seeing the conviction it occurred to me that you were going to be alright. Well done Beren!!! Beren You are so young and your choice to do this is so wise that I would feel badly if you took this thing as a finality of some sort. The beauty of being your age is that there is no finality. You have miles and miles to go from here. All the better for you to do it sans nicotine. Take the time to get down to the heart of your good self and understand that you are the captain of the ship, but also the first mate and the able bodied seaman. As captain you set the direction, but it is the seaman who does the grunt work. In this case the grunt work is laying down the weed. Going on vacation is a good time to initiate change and that is what you are doing. Thats hard for humans to do. We want to stay the same, because it feels safe. Believe me I am not immune in the desire to crawl up in some warm little warren and let the world go by. But it is our birth right to evolve anc change, and that is where the captain comes in. As captain of the ship you must have the vision and forethought to take you and your ship out to sea and come home to safe harbor. That takes vision and skill. You have these things in you, all you must do is dig deep and find the courage to issue the orders to yourself that will allow you to avoid the siren song of nicotine...Good sailing there my young friend...Keep your eye on the horizon. nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 202 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,060 Amount Saved: $1,414.00 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 21 Mins: 4 Seconds: 13

Hi Beren. Congrats on stopping again. I know how you feel. I've been so angry with myself in the past for blowing quits.I blowed a 47 day quit one time. One 22 day quit, 2- 14 day quits, and no telling how many 2 or 3 day quits. My advice is hang in there and take it one day at a time. Smoking will never make any situation better. It's all a deception. I blew most of my quits over some stressful situations. I thought smoking one cig would help. It only made it much, much worse. After, I blowed the 47 day quit, It took me 2 years to get the courage to stop smoking again. I didn't want to go through heck week again. Every time I quit, I always used the cold turkey method. Again, I congratulate you in stopping smoking immediately like you have. Just never take another puff. No matter what happens. Do anything to distract yourself. Take a walk, Go bicycle riding, Take a shower. The urges will pass. Good luck to you. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 129 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,225 Amount Saved: $490.20 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 1 Mins: 6 Seconds: 59

it is all about attitude l think Danielle, today l am feeling much better. l decided to look ahead. l have lots and lots of things to look forward to. l am going for a vacation this weekend, it will be a lot more challenging l guess, but it will also be kind of my first week reward:) nonic, l don't know what to say.. you are truly a godsend. l dont know what made you send those last 2 posts, but they saved my quit! l almost gave up all the efforts thinking it is impossible for me to quit with all of this going on.. there are really no words to show how grateful l am. l will try not to dissapoint you. And you are right about having the benefit of those days, it is not like my first 3 days all over again, it is much easier this time.. new me, there is no way l can avoid smokers, as most of my friends are.. l would feel so lonely:( but the reason l failed is partly about being with smokers, and constantly having cigarettes around, l was with friends when l lost control in the first place.. but when l tried to avoid them, l felt so depressed anyway. l have to figure a way to handle these kind of situations. l will be away for 2 weeks, and when l come back hopefully l will be done with the hardest part, it will be much easier to be around them:) thank you all!! Beren, If you can't get excited about overcoming your craves. How about getting excited about your rewards? Do you have a reward system in place? Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Beren, You are not letting the slip continue on into more smoking; and that is a GOOD thing. You were with some smokers. (I tried to totally avoid smokers in the beginning of my quit. I would just crave toooo much). I finally got a grip on what coping mechanisms worked best when i was around smokers. They are on the first page of scc when you first log in...distract, delay, AVOID, or LEAVE the situation. You are doing something that is NOT easy...and by the way....many kudos for quitting while you are young. You will be sooooo very glad that you quit now instead of in your 40's, 50's, or 60's. (Addiction is progressive. It only gets worse as you continue to abuse your substance of choice). This is an unique time in your life. You are quitting smoking. So, if you need to leave a situation, DO IT. Especially if you feel a big mama crave coming on..you hear your voice in your own brain saying.."can I bum a cig from you"... take a deep breath and run for the hills! Your lifestyle may have to change a bit, and that is okay. Quitting smoking can be a very spiritual experience, a quiet time, retrospective, cleansing. You do not need to do everything and be everywhere that people usually expect of you. This is some serious business. We all need to try and be positive, but also very serious about staying smoke free. It will save our lives. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,176 Amount Saved: $245.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 19 Mins: 25 Seconds: 20

Beren I love the picture...It is perfect for the things you describe...Now how are we going to get you excited about this again...Well number 1 those days of smoking cessation have not disappeared into thin air...You still have the benefit of the time and more importantly you have the experience...Take it easy on yourself...You obviously want this badly or you would not have written the things you have...So its time to get on with it...We are all here to help you and I think that you know how to help yourself...So I have all the faith in the world that your going to get this done...Just take it slowly and break it down to the smallest pieces that you can imagine...like 1 second at a time or 1 hour or 1 day...They all add up to the same thing FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION... thinking of you nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 201 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,030 Amount Saved: $1,407.00 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 17 Mins: 19 Seconds: 54

thank you all for caring and the cheering l am still so mad at myself, it was going to be day 9 for me now:( last week l actually enjoyed my cravings, getting over them, now the excitement has gone, and l dont feel the success at all:( but everything happens for a reason, right? maybe the way l feel now will help me from future relapse, or maybe make someone think once more before taking another puff..
