Laughing Thankyou, I know it must have been hard, to post that about your Dad. If you don't mind, I've copied a bit of it and pasted it on to my shortcut board. I'm going to see it all the time now. Jon and all, This mental anguish is probably the smoker's worst nightmare - will I forever be craving, will I be myself, will I ever be happy again as a non-smoker. This is the addiction talking to you Jon. Recognise it, this is Nicodemon (if you would like to give him/her a name). It is that little voice of doubt that is trying to persuade you to start smoking again. Once you have got a bit of distance between yourself and the addiction, then you can see the situation more clearly. Is life the same since I quit? NO, it is far far better in so many ways. Do not worry about what you will feel like in 3 or 4 months or 6 month time - it will be fine. For today, you just have to get through today. Laughing, I guess that's what I was getting at in my earlier post about quitting drinking you see immediate differences, the smoking you don't know til many years on down the road. Thank you Lainey and Bobby for the compliments. John, it's early in your quit and yes the mental anguish can be hell. Hang on to your quit and eventually the urges get less and less. I believe you need to be prepared mentally which to me means you have to say yourself "I quit smoking". Not hoping, praying, or feel like this is the last quit. You need to put in your mind this is the last quit. Put a hate towards smoking and the tobacco companies for taking your money and your health. Step outside of yourself and really watch other people smoke to see what you look like, and smell like after you smoke. Be absolutly determined and stubborn and let nothing stand in your way to accomplish this. I took this attitude with two demons and I consider myself a non-drinker and non-smoker. Not an alcoholic and x-smoker. Other people may think differently, but it's the mindset that got me where I am at today. Good Luck John and stick with it. Ya know...my father drank until I was about 14 years old...and...in that 14 years...my family and I experienced some really bad stuff. He stayed quit for the rest of his life...from drinking. But the smoke...that was far more sneaky...and physically...health wise..had an equal impact on my father's life...had he kept drinking who knows what would have happened...but "probably" because he kept smoking...he got to have COPD...He had a routine...for years before he died...which he hid from me. He walk from his kitchen to his living room...stop until he could breath again...then from the living room to the front door...stop....wait...then out the door to the top step...stop...wait...then down the steps to the second set of steps...stop sit..wait...then to his car door... Despite all of this...right up until a week before he died..when he stopped being able to talk...or eat..or drink or move really...he said...I'd really like a cigarette... Watching someone die of COPD is miserable... Have I mentioned I hate Philip Morris? I watch the video of my dad when I was a kid...and in almost every section..he has a smoke hanging from his mouth....I don't want that for my kids...I don't know how i'm going to die...but I really would like it not to be a slow steady suffication... Hi all, WOW Freebird, I loved the openess you shared with all, you are great! Yes this is a long hard journey. What I don't understand is seems like the longer days I go the stronger cravings I have??????? Also still so tired, I think the fighting back against nicodemon sure wears a person out, do not have the energy I had when I smoked I was always at a not stop pace, morn. till late night, at times I say how long, how long please stop give me pease please, oh the times I do get pease is wonderful, have it off and on and especially about 20 min. after I put my new patch on. The pease I do get to feel even though not as often as the craves Will and Does keep me going as a none smoker, like I will not be given more then I can stand or almost to that point, lol then comes the pease so I can continue on my journey of being a non-smoker. and that I will no matter what is dished out to me, but is still so hard, :( as we all know. Well I have boo hoo enough for now, will boo hoo more another time, lol lolBYT still with whatever comes along I am so happy I made the decision to STOP smoking. Life is like a roller coaster, all the ups and downs, just with an addition the hills are alittle higher and the downs a little lower, WE WILL all make it at 5:00 p.m. cst lets all shout together, WE WILL MAKE IT! Hugs and prayers, Bobbi My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/27/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,128 Amount Saved: $92.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 12 Mins: 49 Seconds: 54

Guys, I promise you won't think of it all the time. Most of you who wrote are early in the quit. You spent years and years, 20 or more times a day doing this habitual thing. You will learn the meaning of "patience being a virtue!!" It can't... or won't be fixed all at once. BE GRATEFUL you don't have to spend as long quiting as you did smoking!! YIKES!! I'm still into this whole quit but I see it improve day by day.. week by week and month by month. I still think about it....but much less during the day. I won't know how fast the total forgeting will take till I wean off the one piece of gum I still use. I have divided the gum into two half pieces. One for the morning and one for when I get out of work. I'm sure that little bit of nicotine is not helping me over the final hurdle. But I am convinced of one thing.... I will give that last piece up...and I will NOT SMOKE...EVER. I am also working on diciplining my mind to cancel out the thoughts when I think of it. The dwelling on the idea of missing cigarettes does no good for the mind nor commitment. I know you guys can do this thing. I am the worst of the whole bunch on this board...and if I can do it this far.....I KNOW YOU CAN TOO. You guys are doing GREAT. Love your posts and that you post often! Mercy :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 101 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,029 Amount Saved: $451.47 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 3 Mins: 49 Seconds: 49

Ha! Your beating me by 1 cigarette not smoked! I think in time we will both enjoy not having to take a break from the computer. The "smoke break" we used to enjoy so much is really an interuption not a break.
