Change is good!

16 years ago 0 563 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
BFS, I have never seen The Lion King. I can't recall the last Disney movie I saw.. oh well.. I guess we have different tastes in entertainment. But we have similar thoughts in quit concepts. Quitting is about change. In my post about "The Goal", I discuss the concept of control. Change and Control are completely linked when it comes to quitting smoking. You can see it two ways.. you change your life when you gain control or your gain control when you change your life. Either way it's all good. Great perspective. I certainly hope all the newbies are in this forum reading all this good stuff!! Be Strong. Be Smart. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Yes Lady, I do remember doing that... but the context was a little different and it was so long ago that I decided to use the same scene again in a different context. I agree Nonic and Tom, about the fog. But when the fog lifts, the view is SO clear and absolutely breath taking... but not the way that smoking took our breaths away! ;p Crave the Quit! I remember having this conversation once before when you smacked me upside the head and used the disney analogy on me!!! It seems so simple now, but then again hind sight is always 20/20. Change IS good. Sometimes change can be painful but the point is that if we just keep putting our best foot forward, the change comes and we wake up one morning on the other side. What a great morning that is. Don't give up. The fight is worth it. Nonic, you got that right. I am of the same opinion when it comes to smoking. Now that the fog has lifted it's all clear to me now how foolish nicotine can make you. That's not withstanding the foolishness it took to enter into the addiction to begin with; that was the weakest moment of all (weakness of mind). BFS, really good post. Change is scarey and I don't remember that teenage girl who started smoking so long ago. I was miserable as a smoker. It kept me from having a close relationship with my children and grand children who warned me over and over of the danger. It made me feel dumb. Everyone knows smoking is bad for your health and anyone who does it has to be addicted. Oh I know I was one of those who made all sorts of excuses, but deep down inside I knew I was addicted and did not want to face it.Sometimes change is good. Thanks for reminding me I am not alone in this fight for freedom!! Tom I hear you when it comes to reason and logic...The addiction has no relationship to either...Think of it this way how logical is it to stand on a street corner in sub zero weather with the wind blowing a gale in your face, sucking down 4,000 deadly chemicals all the while believing that you are having a marvelous time...The sad fact is that I done just that... Well guess what I "ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more"...Those days are gone for me, nicotine can call my name all it wants, and I will never go back...I get the feeling that you are of the same opinion... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 202 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,060 Amount Saved: $1,414.00 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 21 Mins: 46 Seconds: 52

Great post! I think it's the "fog" of the addiction that is most intimidating when it comes to facing this changed behavior. The fog keeps you from seeing the door or the stick swing over and over again rapping you on the head. The pain dulls with time so you don't have that either to help guide you. You have to proceed on faith that the door is there and you can open it and walk through when you get there. The air will clear and you will see things clearly for the first time in a long time once you pass through. Reason and logic alone don't work because of the addiction. You have to have faith and believe all these rewards await you on the other side of crave river. Crave river is full of things that bite and make you ill. You really have to believe the other side is that much better than the side you're on to make that crosing worth all that pain. Looking back across the river at the other side I came from, it's all clear to me now why I did it to begin with. I realize now that I left nothing behind that will help me move forward. I can easily live without everything I left behind and I sure as hell wouldn't swim back across for anything over there. That journey's not worth it. Bear, Are you trying to say I'm niave or something because of my age?! ;p You're right about change being the open door that we miss because we're looking too long and fondly at the closed door. And yes, change IS scary sometimes... but it's also very exciting. I think it's all in the way we look at it. Crave the Quit!
