Beautiful in1peace!

With that attitude I am sure you will be enjoying more control of your anxiety very soon. It is amazing how CBT and someones determination can change a life. Keep visualizing how you and your life will and you will be different and keep working on CBT and you will get there. In the mean time we are here to support you.

Have you discovered any of your core beliefs yet that might be unhelpful?

People talk about what they hope to do.  I got in trouble telling people hope wasn't good enough, it gives you a way out. I told them that to.  I told them it was hard work but if you do it it works. Don't give up hope just don't stop there.
In1peace believes she can do it and that is what will allow her to do it. I never settled for wanting to do it. Oh it was a good step, just like hope but determination and knowing what I was doing was right is what worked. It isn't easy but you only ever have to do it once.

Ashley...sorry to take so long to reply, but I'm honored that you asked me these questions. I think my life would be a whole lot happier if I weren't constantly guarded and on edge. I'm really doing pretty well on medication, but I want to come off of a strong Benzo because 1. I've found that daily use was never a good health move-studies are suggesting it's a possible trigger for dementia  2. I have Narcolepsy...doctors and insurance companies want you off that type of med because of the added sleepiness and also the need to be on a medication that interacts badly with Benzos. So, getting some hope for a more "normal" life, balanced with energy and rest sounds fantastic and almost unreal!!
I think the other thing I never realized was that there was a cause or causes for panic. Getting to the heart of core beliefs has got to be a life-changer. Even if I never figure out what started the trauma, knowing myself and learning my triggers seems like a miracle within my reach. I'm looking forward to being a confident, relaxed person! I might actually believe in myself enough to climb some mountains that I'd never dared dream of before!

Thank you MelJ!!
I had quit Mary Kay for 10 years because of various health and childcare issues. Panic may have been part of the problem too. I was always stressing about dressing up for appointments or meetings. I am a casual dresser and always fought the professional look, even if it looked good on me. LOL! And I would get a case of nerves before every class. But more than that, I remember the fun of being with a group of women that was always supportive and discouraged gossip and bad attitudes. It was fun to be a part of that bunch and some of my best friends were met through Mary Kay!! When my daughter wanted to learn how to do makeup for prom, I called a consultant to have a class for us. After that class, she invited us to another event. When we got there I realized it was a unit recognition and I forgot how wildly fun they are. My daughter was excited too and we started talking about how I should be doing this again. And so...here I go...

Welcome in1piece,

You sound determined in your quest to eliminate anxiety and I wish you all the best. I'm relatively new to this group and program. I've found the people to be friendly and the tools to be helpful.

I noticed you are a Mary Kay lady.  I was too, many years ago.  What a wonderful company!  Many of the things I learned through MK have been useful in other parts of my life such as positive affirmations.  The women from my MK unit were always super supportive of each other's pursuits, both professional and personal ones.  I hope your unit is the same.

Best to you,
MelJ

Welcome in1peace,

It sounds like you have a great plan. It also sounds like you have a great positive attitude. I look forward to reading about your journey.

To get you excited about your future, how do you think your life would be different if you had control over the anxiety? Try to visualize what you would be doing differently and how it would feel.

Hello Everyone! Wow... it's hard to believe that my panic/anxiety issues started back in 2005. When I finally got help to understand this frightening terror we all go through, I got on a mentality that I would be fine. No further help needed. Imagine MY surprise when I realize that my dependence on clonazepam to control my symptoms was being called into question by several different physicians! I did some research. Yikes.. there's a possibility that constant use of Benzodiazapemes is linked to dementia!! OK.. before any of you using these medications freaks out and has a panic attack (my first in 10 years) about what I just told you, it is ok to be taking these medications with a physician's guidance. Just be certain that you understand that lengthy, daily use (I'm currently take 1mg, 2x a day) is what causes real problems, especially if you've been taking them for a very long time! 10 years in my case. I decided to look into coming off this drug. Well..... it takes a long time, sometimes a year or more to wean off it. The more I thought about what I was like before clonazepam, the more I was freaking out about giving it up. My panic attacks were extreme, I had physical symptoms I can't describe, I would wake up in the middle of a panic attack and started losing weight, pacing constantly, crying, running, calling physicians, becoming depersonalized or experiencing derealization, thinking I should just give up my children to their father and enter a mental home. I won't go into my whole story right now. I DID try CBT. I also tried EMDR. However, neither therapy released me from the drug, I couldn't quit clonazepam, because I still could not quit panicking. 10 years later I am discussing this with a therapist, and she basically said, "Maybe you can do it this time. In fact, you probably WILL learn how to not panic. Physicians now understand that it takes a LOT longer time to wean down on certain medications and you could do this!" So.... I'm here. I am taking notes. I am sharing this site with my therapist, and I am planning to quit clonazepam. However, we have a slight glitch. One of my children is going into her last year of high school. I REALLY need to be there for her. So this is what my therapist recommended: CBT right now, and start coming off clonazepam a year from now. My intent is to get a grip on that anxiety to that is always under the surface, through CBT, so that when the clonazepam is being diminished, I will already have coping skills in place. And.... if I have to.... I will go through CBT again when I am weaning off the clonazepam, if I feel that I need it. The great news is.... I am hearing so many stories of people defeating panic with CBT, I am READY to rid of it FOR GOOD!! At 49 years old, it would be amazing to envision my world without panic attacks and anxiety attacks! I am very hopeful and very thankful for this free site!! Whoever pulled this site together, God bless you from the depths of my soul!!!!! If you've read this far, thank you! It's a lot to read. I'm looking forward to going on a journey with some of you, and I hope you feel positive energy coming off of me. I'm not always positive, but I'm going to keep projecting positive energy until I forget how to be negative. Excited to be here! Happy to know that people care enough to follow up!! Best wishes to everyone on this journey, in1peace
