Hi Michelle, I'm so glad that you posted! I've had panic disorder, gad, and agoraphobia for 17 years now and dizziness has been a problem for me from day one! It's also one of the symptoms that cause me the most panic...but, in 17 years, I've NEVER fainted, NEVER passed out, never even lost my balance due to the dizziness. I was told that it's just a tightening of the muscles in your scalp that affects your eyes and your ears which are responsible for your balance. Knowing that has helped me to keep it in perspective. Hope it helps you too. I also have the problem with always watching what's going on with my body too, I am always very aware of every little glitch and tend to focus on it and then catastrophize about what it is. Hope you feel better soon, Jacquie

Misswrld04, Sorry to hear about that! Your not feeling well was probably a combination of all of these factors. Some members have shared that it takes them a few hours to recover from the effects of a panic attack. If your symptoms persist or worsen call your MD. Keep working through the program. You've had a bad day but you've had good days too. Today is a day to take good care of yourself and start fresh tommorrow. Stay strong. Danielle _________________________ The PC Support Team

hey guys, i just took the atenolol about an hour ago, i had a panic attack from hell this morning. I was on my way to work on the highway, i didnt get very good sleep last night, and it really hit me hard. I couldnt feel myself, i felt dizzy and numb, like i was just going to pass out while i was driving, it scared me so much that i called into work and went back home. I slept until about 11 and i woke up feeling very groggy!! So i dont know if it's just me being groggy and messed up from the attack, or if im feeling the affects of the drug. I am scared. I just want to feel normal again.

I just took 25mg of Atenolol... I was a bit anxious, and I wanted to see how the Atenolol would affect me. So far, not so bad. I just feel a bit tired, but in a good way. It was wierd at first, because I still felt anxiety (worrying about drug effects), but my heart wasn't racing. The Atenolol just reduces the physical symptoms of anxiety. Don't be so afraid of it and just try it... it might help.

I was just prescribed Atenolol too! I have been taking lexapro for about 8 days now (5mg), and it is just starting to lift my mood (a little) -- However, I still get nasty panic attacks when I get my blood pressure taken (even at home!). So, I'm not sure whether I am going to start taking Atenolol yet either... I might try to see how good exposure therapy works first without the Atenolol... but something tells me the Atenolol would help...

Thankyou everyone so much, you made me feel alot better about things. I did go to the doctor yesterday, and she wants me to start taking atenolol 25mg, for the panic and heart palpitations that i have. Has anyone ever taken it? I absolutley dread taking new meds for fear of the side affects. Its crazy that it could help me, but im just to afraid to take it to even see if it will help me! once again, thankyou so much for listening!

Michelle, I too suffer from anxiety and have suffered for close to 3 years now. I experience dizziness daily. I have been to doctors who ruled out any medical problem and said it was just my anxiety. What I find to be most helpful is breathing techniques. They really do work. Also, exercise helps reset your breathing so that may help you too. I found that the majority of my dizziness was the result of hyperventilation or overbreathing. This can occur when we are anxious and unknowingly take in too much oxygen because we feel like we are out of breath. Try breathing in through your nose for a count of 5 or so, hold for 2 to 3, then slowly breath out of your mouth to a count of 7. That is what i do, especially when i feel anxious and it has really been helping me. I get anxious everytime I go to class and this breathing exercise helps calm me. Good luck with everything, you are not alone, and keep me posted.

misswrld, trust me, you are not the only one that suffers from dizzy spells! I have had "panic disorder and OCD" for about 35 years, and this is quite common for me. I especially have a difficult time this time of year (September to January), I believe it to be Seasonal Anxiety Disorder (SAD). I think it has to do with the days getting shorter, ie, less daylight. It may also be the meds I'm on, but I've taken so many different ones over the years, and they have not really affected my dizziness either way, but I wouldn't rule it out completely. I just feel it's unlikely. If you can, just try taking a hot bath, deep breathing, and relax ( I know, easier said than done) it helps me a lot. I hope you feel better. Just remember, you are far from being alone! Good Luck!!

miss, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. This can better help assess the situation. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon. Keep Strong, Josie ______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.
