Not many people are willing to give failure a second opportunity. They fail once and it's all over. The bitter pill of failure is often more than most people can handle. If you're willing to accept failure and learn from it, if you're willing to consider failure as a blessing in disguise and bounce back, you've got the potential of harnessing one of the most powerful success forces.
- Joseph Sugarman

Give failure a second opportunity, so "...peace has a chance...."

If you have tried to do something and failed, you are vastly better off than if you had tried to do nothing and succeeded. You must never regret what might have been. The past that did not happen is as hidden from us as the future we cannot see.
- Richard Martin Stern

I wish I could marvel at the successes more than the failures

If you want to take your mission in life to the next level, if you're stuck and you don't know how to rise, don't look outside yourself. Look inside. Don't let your fears keep you mired in the crowd. Abolish your fears and raise your commitment level to the point of no return, and I guarantee you that the Champion Within will burst forth to propel you toward victory.
- Bruce Jenner

Finding the point of "no return" means go outside your comfort zone.  This is unlike what I'm used to, unlike staying in the same place

Does it mean anything else to others?   Am I misinterpreting this?

You can do what you want to do, accomplish what you want to accomplish, attain any reasonable objective you may have in mind - not all of a sudden, perhaps not in one swift and sweeping act of achievement - but you can do it gradually, day by day and play by play, if you want to do it, if you work to do it, over a sufficiently long period of time.
- William E. Holler

It's hard to appreciate the great things we achieve over our lifetimes, since media promotes quick fixes and accomplishments over our small steps, making us think we're not as good as a celebrity, actor or professional athlete with their publicity

Many men fail because they quit too soon. They lose faith when the signs are against them. They do not have the courage to hold on, to keep fighting in spite of that which seems insurmountable. If more of us would strike out and attempt the "impossible," we very soon would find the truth of that old saying that nothing is impossible... abolish fear and you can accomplish anything you wish.
- Dr. C. E. Welch

What’s the secret to making the “impossible” a simple reality for me?

People don't change their behavior unless it makes a difference for them to do so.
- Fran Tarkenton

Building on this point, it helps to know what is important to me.  If I know what "matters" to me, this self-knowledge will help me to plan successfully.  An example deals with motivating myself.  Since my health is important, I ensure I prepare well for doctor's appointments.  Another person might not prepare for their appointments, and just "show up" to work.  I, on the other hand, will prepare a list of questions, research issues, and bring something to read for a possibly long wait.  I end up being motivated, prepared, and poised for the physician, and the physician and I end up with a good relationship and productive meeting.

The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat.
- Napoleon Hill

I wonder what that song "Light my fire" was referring to

The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger

Envisioning and overtraining can aid success

It is a paradoxical but profoundly true and important principle of life that the most likely way to reach a goal is to be aiming not at that goal itself but at some more ambitious goal beyond it.
- Arnold Toynbee

Maybe the reason we have to plan ahead of the goal, is to account for possible obstacles, which aren't immediately obvious.  This is done in sports quite often, and is called "overtraining".

If this is done in sports, why can't it be applied the lives of those of us who are trying to overcome our weaknesses

Quote of the Day:
Our attitudes control our lives. Attitudes are a secret power working twenty-four hours a day, for good or bad. It is of paramount importance that we know how to harness and control this great force.
- Tom Bland

Focus leads us to our destiny, so what am I focusing on today
