There is a myth out there that Nicotine Replacement Therapies should not be used until after the age of 18.
The fact is that most daily smokers begin smoking before the age of 18. The nicotine patch and gum are far safer than smoking and are suitable for those under age 18. Therefore, NRT's should be considered for all smokers who need nicotine replacement therapies to quit, including those under the age of 18. As with other medications for adolescents, the NRT dosage should be modified to the smoker’s needs and a physician should always be consulted.
