Staying Hydrated

Hi Vingenza,  I too drink lots of water.  Have cut down to one cup of coffee and add lemon and ginger sometimes but when I'm out walking it plain water with an extra bottle to dribble on my head when it's very hot.  TY

Hi Vincenza, I like one of your tips for staying hydrated "start and end each day with a glass of water". I don't drink enough water so I think I am going to take your advice and make a small but significant lifestyle change. Thank you Vincenza.

Why is it important to stay hydrated?  Not only is it a useful way to distract yourself from having a cigarette, it is essential for every organ in the body to function properly. Water aids with elimination of waste and toxins and helps maintain proper neuron signaling in the brain, thus reducing ‘brain fog’.

Signs that you may be dehydrated:

dizziness,
headache,
confusion,
dry mouth,
little or no urine
extreme thirst
sleepiness

In order to stay properly hydrated, a general rule of thumb is to drink on average 8 glasses a day.  There are many different ways to help you stay hydrated, here are just a few:

•    Start and end your day with a glass of water
•    Add lemon or lime for added flavour
•    Have a reusable bottle of water with you during the day – this helps reduce plastic bottle waste.
•    Choose herbal teas instead of coffee since caffeinated drinks act as diuretics.

Do you find drinking water is helpful to maintain your quit?  What additional tips do you have to stay hydrated?
