10 Tips to Help You Achieve Your Goals

Members,

Having well-planned goals can make a big difference in achieving your desired outcome. Here are 10 tips to help you create goals that will ensure you maximize your chance for success!

  1. Make it about you! Make sure that your goals are geared to you and only you! Set your goals based on you as an individual ensuring to take into consideration all of your personal limitations.
  2. Use a calendar. Using dates for your goals will be crucial to your success. Pick a date to get started and stick with it.
  3. Write it down. Writing down our goals put them into focus and also make us more accountable
  4. Focus on the process. Be sure to include process goals on top of your outcome goals. Process goals are ones that focus on the actual activity (ex: Go for a run 3 times a week), outcome goals refer to the result of your process (ex: lose 10lbs.).
  5. Think short-term and long-term. Short-term goals help you stay on track on a daily-basis and long-term goals keep you focused for a longer period. Short-term goals are the stepping stones that lead to the long-term goal. They are both very important!
  6. Take reasonable steps. It is important to make gradual changes to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  7. Plan for setbacks. Having setbacks is part of natural part of behaviour change. Being prepared to cope with these potential setbacks will help you overcome them.
  8. Be realistic.
  9. Evaluate your progress. Keeping track of how you are doing will greatly help you stay on track and see where you could improve.
  10. Reassess and adjust your goals as needed. It is important to check-in with your goals and make changes as needed.

Have you used any of these tips when writing your goals? How have these tips helped you achieve your goals? How will you incorporate these tips into your goal-setting?
