Thank you all, we can always count on you, you are truly great people. I am going to get myself a beautiful can of mints, and go through the ritual of opening can, opening paper, choose a mint, fold paper, close can. This should keep me busy. Thanks again Marie :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 396 Amount Saved: $104 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 11 Mins: 36 Seconds: 46

Hi, it's such an eery feeling, I don't want to smoke, but I don't know what to do instead, I'm lost, today I made strawberry jam and pie, then I was looking for something else to do. The kids came over for a swim and as soon as I got out of the pool, I was looking for something to do (but what) it seems my mind has an empty space that I can't fill no matter what I do. I can't express it totally but I don't like this feeling very much . I hope I will find the answer. I'm the type of person who wants everything done yesterday so I guess this is part of it, I want this taken care of asap. Any suggestions anyone. This is really really hard work Marie :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 389 Amount Saved: $100 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 10 Mins: 15 Seconds: 31

Hello everyone, You've given Marie some ver valuable advice, quitting also involves learning new habits and implementing new routines. Can other members share with us what routines they've put into place? Danielle ______________________________ The SSC Support Team

hi Marie, ... and hard work pays dividends! Do not lose sight of what you have achieved, nearly 4 weeks, almost one month (and without doubt the most difficult month). Is it really that you there is nothing for you to do, or like me in my first month, I found it difficult to get out of the habit of sitting around, so that I could smoke? Even when I did the simplest job in the house I had to fit in at least one cig break. In my opinion, this isn't just about kicking an addiction, it's also involves learning how to live again, like 'normal' people. best wishes, Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 146 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,386 Amount Saved: 1095 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 9 Mins: 3 Seconds: 59

Hi N2k - Your post hit home with me - thanks so much... Marie - make sure to reward yourself, little rewards are great:) And sometimes when the void hits me, I sit down and take deep breaths and let out the stress - it helps:) Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 126 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,411 Amount Saved: $585.9 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 8 Mins: 20 Seconds: 44

Hi, there is a void for all of us. Judging by your stats you smoked about 15 a day and if you spent only 5 minutes per cigarette (and it was probably more) then that is a total of 1 hour 15 minutes each and every day just smoking, plus the time preparing and buying fags etc. so probably 2 hours a day in total. That is a huge part of the day that you are awake and initially it is not so easy to find something to fill all that time with. Hi Marie, You are experiencing 'the void.' Some have compared it to an amputated limb. Over time this feeling will subside (if you stay quit.) I used to smoke every time I completed a task. It was my 'queue' to stop, relax and admire my work or enjoy completing something (no matter how small a chore). Now, I am able to do that without the cigarette. What to do? You might consider starting some sort of custom ritual. Every time you feel the void you will _________. (Think of something simple you can do anywhere.) I used to eat a special (expensive) mints that came in a pretty tin. It was my mini reward to fill in the gaps. Try not to worry, the void is apart of the 'mind game' that happens in the first part of the quit. Therefore, anything can REPLACE the old choke time if you let it. You should try not to dwell on what is missing. Never ever let yourself feel deprived. YOU CHOOSE NOT TO SMOKE. Keep up the hard work~it pays well when the jobs over :) All the best~ 2 My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 323 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,106 Amount Saved: $1615 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 15 Mins: 45 Seconds: 27

Marie, I know exactly what you mean, a feeling of emptiness, 'something' is missing but you don't know what. It does fade with time, follow N2k's advice and keep strong. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 114 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,284 Amount Saved: 285 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 19 Mins: 28 Seconds: 15
