Bear,
Couldn't agree with you more. They made it seem almost healthy to smoke in old cigarette adds. The tobacco industry is very seductive in how it advertises.

Winston is sure making friends in a hurry! This filter cigarette has real flavor - the full, rich tobacco flavor real smokers want. In short, Winston tastes good - like a cigarette should!
Besides bringing flavor back to filter smoking, Winston also brings you a finer filter. The exclusive Winston filter works so effectively, but lets the full, rich flavor come right through to you. Winstons are easy-drawing - there's no effort to puff!"
This is from the 1940's - when people smoked with impunity and no guilt!

I'm still getting over the 'You've Come a Long Way Baby' I still think they had more addictive substances in Virginia Slims. They sure sucked me in. Not now!!!

OMG, they're funny. How about this:
Fun Small Print:
"Lighting up a PALL MALL just naturally goes with that feeling of satisfaction you get from a job well done. For PALL MALL pays you a rich reward in smoking pleasure -- an extra measure of cigarette goodness.
"PALL MALLS are made longer - to travel the smoke further - to make it cooler and sweeter for you."

Oh bear, you are so right! Unbelievable...I had to copy this one from a 1950's mazazine ad:
MAD AS A WET HEN? That's natural when little annoyances ruffle you. But the psychological fact is: pleasure helps your disposition. That's why everyday pleasures, like smoking for instance, are important. If you're a smoker, you're wise to choose the cigarette that gives the most pleasure.
Can you believe it!
