Quitting 101

16 years ago 0 2417 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
The first few days of my quit I literally took it hour by hour. Then I took it day by day. Then I took it week by week. I knew exactly how long it had been since my last cigarette. Each night when I went to bed I congratulated myself that I had made it through the day. Now I have to log onto this site to see how long it has been since I quit. One good word to describe quitting - determination My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 202 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,030 Amount Saved: $848.40 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 17 Mins: 30 Seconds: 43

oh my gosh! I just figured out why every time I leave costco to drive home I want a cigarette. This whole time I thought it was just because that is what I used to do...shop, fill up on gas, smoke on the way home DUH!!!!!!! That is where I used to buy my cigarettes. Funny, tho, today I didn't have the urge to smoke. Instead, I congratulated myself on buying some new tank tops there with the money I saved by not buying smokes...and I never once thought of buying cigs while I was there...progress -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 129 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,160 Amount Saved: $877.20 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 23 Mins: 22 Seconds: 30

Yep, yep, & yep, lol. I can smoke tomorrow if I want to but I'm going to get through today without it. I've thought that before. Just knowing I can chose to smoke if I want to seems to give me more power not to :) I must stay in the moment & in today. So as a coping technique sometimes I've told myself, if I still want to smoke tomorrow then I will but for right now in this moment of struggle I'm not going to give up. The friggin 7-11's & gas stations will always be there on every corner calling my name but that doesn't mean that I have to listen :) Now a 7-11 is for buying a bag of cheetos or sumtin and a gas station is just that, a gas station. Just breathe....... Cigarettes Not Smoked

Quitting 101 Presence of mind, be very aware of that automatic reflex reaction to reach for that smoke. A stall technique worked well for me. When a crave would hit hard and I could not no longer bear it, I would think to myself dont do today what can be put off until tomorrow. Has anyone used this type of technique and if so has it worked for you?
