smoking related cancer

18 years ago 0 25 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My brother was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. He hsa been a longtime smoker. He had a small bump on his lip where he always dragged off his smoke. Too make a long story shorter, he just had surgery last Wednesday, most of his bottom lip was removed, gums and a small piece of chin till they got it. They reconstructed the lip, really doesnt look too bad, but still here all this started from a stupid cigarette which then caused a tumor, left unattended you are left disfigured. If that isnt enough incentive for me to be successfull in my quit journey then I dont know what is. chickymama My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 951 Amount Saved: $231 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 1 Mins: 38 Seconds: 38

So sorry about your brother and hope he recovers quickly. Sometimes this is THE incentive when we see a loved one go through a smoking related disease.. but really, often that situation fades and the bottom line is it all comes from within ourselves that we quit and stay quit! My best wishes to your brother... Stay strong yourself and keep well! It should be reason enough, but really, nothing outside of yourself will be strong enough to beat this addiction. Please send our very best wishes to your brother, after having kept what you need for yourself. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 62 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,148 Amount Saved: $341 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 0 Mins: 35 Seconds: 36

Sorry to hear about your brother. How awful. Yes, that should be just the incentive...it's a shame we don't receive these wake up calls long before the damage is done... Glad you have quit.
