Tips for the cold turkeys

17 years ago 0 61 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi everyone, You know it is now almost 21 days and I would like to extend a couple things that have helped me along the way, besides of course this great site. I quit cold turkey so it was not fun but here were my actions. Hope this helps. Week 1 - Downloaded stop smoking hypnosis tracks. Took my breaks in my car listening to music. Eating at subway everyday. Week 2 - Stopped hypnosis, downloaded relaxing music like "Frank sinatra, beethoven, mozart, etc." continued to eat subway everyday. Still listening to music on breaks. Week 3 - Moved from relaxing music to hard and moderate rock like "Korn, Marylin Manson, Disturbed, Staind, Drowning pool, and the beatles." Quit subway and am now bringing a lunch. Still listening to music on breaks; however, now I am sometimes bringing my mp3 player and walking for some breaks. The most important thing about quitting is to have a goal to keep you motivated. Some of you already know that I am a musician though that is not what I do for a living. My goal was to save money for studio time. That goal has been my main focus and what has kept me strong. You must believe in yourself and turn into those people that you see in movies. You know what I'm talking about, the guy or girl is a big loser and then they train and train and boom they are Zorro, or Electra, etc. Anyways, I guess the point I'm trying to make in all this ramble is "Just because your quitting cold turkey doesn't mean you shouldn't have a plan." For me I'm in sales and I have been trained in work and in college that in this game you have to think quick on your feet to survive. I like the fact that every week I'm changing it up. For me the patch, or the gum just doesn't work. So keep strong, this site is amazing and a big part of my success. I would like to thank you all so much. Hi Jojo0195 :) Thanks for sharing your method with us. I am going cold turkey without drugs too, and have found the hypnosis CDs to be a big help. Something else I got from this site that I didn't have for other quits is that when a thought of smoking comes along, I just say, "N.O.P.E. - Not one puff ever." It drives the thought right away and I don't feel at all deprived, just relaxed. :8|: My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 490 Amount Saved: $80 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 4 Mins: 23 Seconds: 1

You go, Joe! You're SMOKIN'! (Um, so to speak.) So very much to applaud in your post -- clapping my hands off, and hoping you can stick it out. You're an inspiration. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,596 Amount Saved: $170.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 7 Seconds: 24

I've been trying to get tickets to that concert for weeks, Duckie! I'm within range of 5 major cities...all sold out. Oh well, next year. Concerts...add that to the list of a music lovers favorite distractions.
