Hi Perth, I tried answering you last week, however it appears my response went into the internet vapours. If I understand your question correctly you are wondering how I continue to function as if nothing major has happened. I'm not sure I do. I have difficult days like everyone else and am getting help from health professionals and a strong network of loved ones. Some days I have to compartmentalise everything so that I can keep going. Dare to dream about the ideal world - in particular my family would be healthy and happy and I wouldn't have to react to anymore of this. In an ideal world in the current situation, I could just stop and breathe. I need to time to think through some of these things and work it out in my mind. I don't know if I'd react any differently. Hi AnneMary You are amazing. I wouldn't know anyone who could be just relaxed when all these happen that you describe. I also find it great that you look for support to cope with the extraordinary situation. Thats definitely the right thing. But you are even stronger than that. All not easy, but from my point of view you can be so proud of yourself and how you manage (!) all of these. If it's OK to ask, I was just wondering, what would make you think to "function" (sorry for this word, didnt find the right one maybe) as if nothing serious had happened..? I mean, this is really amazing what you manage despite the challenges. Giving the attention to an issue or even issues may be exactly right when it comes to loved ones. I find you are already doing an incredible work. What are your thoughts, what would be your ideal world right now how would you like to react to all these? You're great and please don't forget this!

I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being exhausted and overwhelmed. Having said that I take it one day at a time. I got out of bed and made it through work and I'm taking the night off - no homework, no volunteer tonight.

I have taken a mindful meditation course that was offered through my medical program and it was very good. I can only manage a few minutes but it helps me to stop reoccuring thoughts and relax. I recommend it to anyone suffering from depression or anxiety. It can help. Thanks for providing the links, I'll check them out.

I am glad you found us.  I have to say, considering everything you are going through and taking on, it is amazing you joined this program to help yourself. I am very impressed! You are clearly a very strong and determined lady! Please give yourself lots of credit often.

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now. I think anyone would feel overwhelmed and anxious considering everything. Allow yourself to have those feelings and try not to feel guilty about feeling down or anxious. These are normal responses to difficult life situations. It is understandable that you are constantly waiting for the "next thing" to happen considering all you are dealing with. Challenging that fear may help you to help you to feel better - this program will help you to work on thoughts like these that may be fueling the negative feelings. 

In addition to this program I also recommend learning about mindfulness. Mindfulness is proven helpful in treating depression, anxiety and a variety of other physical and mental health issues. Mindfulness can be incorporated into any lifestyle - I think it would be a great fit for your busy life right now. Here are some resources that will help to get you started:

I am new to the program and am grateful for any supports/help it may offer to deal with my anxiety and depression. I work full-time, volunteer and take university courses part-time. I have a son living at home who is severely depressed and that causes tremendous stress in the home. My husband is currently on long term disability and has been off work for 8 months. I feel like I have everything riding on my shoulders (which is probably not true) and am constantly worried about the 'next thing' that will happen.
