hi, Many, many moons ago I took a very low dose of prozac to finish a school year (as a young adult) and start therapie... at the time the dr mentioned that prozac has the side-effect of making one "wired" (a bit more energetic) and in diminishing appetite. by the way welcome

Michelerah, If your doctor prescribed you medicine you should follow it as he has suggested and not stop taking it unless that is what he prescribes. As for the weight gain, that is very common with depression. Read Daily Llamas post about Information of various diets. Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist

Daily Llama- Thank you for your reply. On Prozac and I believe it's time for a higher dosage. The weight gain started when I stopped taking the medication. I stopped taking the medication a month ago. In that month I have been devouring everything in site. It's crazy because when I get really low I don't eat because everything is nauseating. Now, it's like I want to eat all the time and mask it. As far as diet goes I was vegan for four years but after a night when I was way beyond inebriation I started eating meat again. I have never been as sick physically & mentally since. It's time for a change. I get to see my "consultant" today. I am going to discuss my medication and it's sudden disappearance from my life. Oh how I enjoy that term for a therapist so it doesn't make you sound as crazy. I am also going to discuss you all and this website. I am really glad that I am making this step towards discussing my depression with others because I only talk to my "consultant." **I need to get ready for work. I will respond to all when I return. Thank you for your replies **

Michelerah, Hi, and welcome to the site. Well, now you know about how the medication works! Good luck with the sessions. Let me know how your diet works because I have to lose 50 lbs - there seems to be quite an issue among some of the members with carrying too much weight; whether it's a function of depression or not, we need to watch it for health. I'd like to know what you and the other members are doing diet-wise. Have you been back on your meds for long enough to feel the benefits of them? later

I have been accepting and denying my depression for as long as I can remember. I stopped taking my medication thinking that I would be okay and was I wrong. I have gained weight which doesn't help aiding in my happiness. I lost interest in everything. But I need to pick up the pieces again and start building me again and I hope that this helps because I need this to work to maintain some sanity.
