Driving exposure

Good job JayDee,

Just keep doing what you are doing and also be sure to acknowledge your progress each and every time you go out. It sounds like you are doing great. It also sounds like the winter will bring a new level to your exposure - I have a feeling at the rate you are going, it will be a challenge you will be up for.

The three things necessary to change a core belief are perception, attitude and belief.  Perception is knowing what it is, attitude is the determination to see it through and belief is that you are right and can see it through. Do you have all three and how strongly. The least doubt will undermine what you are trying to do.
It matters little knowing why you can't do something (driving) Perception is knowing it has become more than just a core thought. Can you change your attitude from I can't to I want to without thinking I have to.  Yes you have to but have to is negative. Wanting to is positive and gives you control. Believing so keeps you from slipping back into negative thoughts and negative reasons.

You can do this, just make sure you really have all three and that they are more than just words.

If you rely on having to do something then you will have to forever. This is not recovery but only coping. Not good enough, you can do better. You can recover all you have lost, all you fear shall pass.

Davit.

PS, nothing special about me other than determination. Panic is not going to rule my life.

I'm like you Jaydee, but i always tell myself its not really the driving that is the problem...its how we perceive the driving.

WE must keep going to not fear it and that's what I'm holding on to.

I finally drove a little further this evening. I was nervous, forgot to use my side mirrors and had somebody in a hurry behind me causing me some anxiety. But I did it. I'm still not as comfortable as I'd like to be behind the wheel of a car, but still doing this until I am fully able to do it with no anxiety. I know I will be very uncomfortable once there is snow on the ground. Any suggestions?
