depersonalization

20 years ago 0 26 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I also have this feeling everyday. It has gotten better over the last couple of weeks but I still have periods of the feeling of the whole room feels cloudy and smoky and then my head feels light and I feel like I cant see very well. I have noticed that when I feel like this really bad it has to do with the lighting and the time of day usually makes things worse for me. After it gets dark I usually start to relax and then I feel better. Does anyone ever feel like they have a hangover when they come down from their panic and anxiety a little. I just wondered. Anyway you are not alone and I hope that things get better for you. Jmodge

You're not alone, Josie! I too have periods of depersonalization. Very scary and weird, but they will pass with time.

I also get the same feeling, and it's totally bizarre, isn't it?But something that kinda helps me when i feel like that is to make myself eat something...don't know why it helps me,but it does. And i don't just feel that way during a panic attack,i feel like that when i'm not feeling any panic or anxiety at all.

hello josie, I also have the same feelin of not being "here" and everything feels like it is not real. I have this all day everyday. I have suffered from panic attacks for about 4 years now and though they have gotten much better, I recently had a set back and the feelings that eveything was fake returned. i have been told they will go away with time and that it is just a symptom of the panic attacks. Hope you are doing well NikkiJ

josie, I didn't realize that there was actually a depersonalization disorder. I always thought depersonalization went along with panic and was one of the symptoms of it. Most of us who suffer from panic disorder have had that not real feeling. When I had it, my head would get all tingley and my face would go numb and I would feel almost like I had left my body. The reason this happens is because during a panic attack there is decreased blood flow to the brain. A panic attack more then anything else causes the fastest and most complex reaction within the body. Your heart beats faster, more blood flows into your vital organs , but less blood pumps into your arms and legs, which causes that tingley feeling. Your breathing gets harder and your pupils dilate all of this causes you to feel really weird and get the depersonalization feeling. I know this probably won't make you feel much better , but sometimes it helps when you know why you are feeling strange and it has nothing to do with dying or losing your mind it's just basically your body responding to out of whack chemicals.

I have been diagnosed with depersonalization disorder recentley. But I believe my anxiety may bring this on. Does anyone else have these symptoms of being "not real" "numb" feeling as if ur in a movie?? I have had this constantly for 3 years and it only gets unbearable when my thoughts and anxiety get high. I have been a anxious person all my life. As far as I can remember I had my first attack at 9, but the dp thing didn't start till i was 19. Any comments very much appreciated!!
