Phoebe,
I am not on Effexor, but I almost am a member of a site that interacts directly with a doctor that deals with panic disorders and has written two books about it. He states in the SSRI's that Effexor is the leading SSRI that is hard to withdrawal from, followed by others, he had stated, that Prozac did help in the symptoms of withdrawal, and particular mentions the brain "zaps" he calls them. He also notes that it should be done gradually in increments of one month at a time in his opinion.
Hope this helps,
Trish
I'm not sure where I should be posting this message, but I figured I'd try here.
I am trying to wean myself of Effexor XR for the last few weeks and it has not been easy. The reason I am doing so, is to find out if this med is causing my high blood pressure. I was down to 37.5mgs every other day then down to 18.75mgs. per day. I tried to the 18.75mg every other day, I could not make it past 24hrs. It was pure hell, between the agitation, nervousness, and not to mention the "brain zaps", I don't know which was worse. No amount of Xanax could help what I experienced yesterday.
The reason why I am writing is to find out if anyone had successfully withdrawn from SSRI's. The brain zaps are the worst. I am seeing my doctor on Thurs. I know he had mentioned in order to ease withdrawal, is to take Prozac for a few days. I guess they last a little longer in your system and don't cause any withdrawal effects.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
