Glad you found it helpful Shari!

Your purpose certainly sounds clear to me!

Hi Ashley,

Visualization #1:  I would be in the country and I would feel peaceful.  I've been thanked in the past for rescuing animals, because the new owners love them.  So, bringing rescued pets to their new owners would be it.  I don't picture people not smiling, because I've made peace with them in the past.  And, if they hold onto grudges or choose not to forgive, then that's on them, not me.  I've forgiven them.  I have a clean conscience.

Visualization #2:  What the billboard would say;  "Take Responsibility for Your Pets for Their Entire Lifetime."  Spay and neuter your pets.  If you breed animals, take the responsibility for the lives you bring into this world.  If an owner doesn't want them anymore, take them back and find a new home for them or keep them for the rest of their lives.  Do this for the remainder of all of your pet's lives.  Eliminate shelters and the killing of millions of pets.

Visualization #3:  I would expect my future self to be the same as I am now, caring for animals and their welfare and well being.  I would ask if the world has improved and if there are still shelters and irresponsible pet owners.  I would be encouraging and say, keep up the good work and save as many animals as you can, because even if it doesn't eliminate the problem, it matters in the lives of the animals you do save and it matters to the new owners who's lives you have touched.  I would give myself the gift of my saved money, so I could continue to afford to help animals.

I'll be honest, I was a bit skeptical about this exercise, but after having done it, I see the purpose in it and I'm glad I did it and didn't pass over it.  Thanks Ashley.

Finding new activities that you enjoy are an important part of behaviour change. Having a good understanding of your values is important in understanding yourself and what new activities you would find fulfilling.  The last few discussions on Values likely have helped you. You now are likely moving towards honouring your values more often and challenging things that conflict with your values. So what’s next? -- Moving towards leading a life that honours your values and has purpose.

It’s important to feel you have a purpose in life. To feel that your life has meaning and that you are contributing something. It can be daunting thinking about your life’s purpose.  But when can help you to start thinking about it.

Sit back and take a few deep abdominal breaths. Try to relax. When you are ready look at the points below one by one. Take at least 5 minute on each pint visualizing that thinking about the questions asked. Take notes after each visualization.

•    Imagine yourself in a place you find beautiful and calming. What does this place look like? How do you feel? In your beautiful place you sit down and absorb your surroundings. After a few moments you look around and you notice a number of smiling people are walking towards you. They are walking towards you with out stretched arms wanting to thank you. These are people from your past and future that you have and will help or make an impact on. What will they thank you for? How have or how will you help them? Perhaps you are visualizing people from your past coming  towards you who are not smiling. Perhaps they are angry, upset or disappointed. If this is the case how will you greet them now? What will you say to them now?
•    Imagine that someone has chosen you to create a marketing plan to help change the world. They have chosen you because they feel your values line up with how they want to influence the world. They have given you one billboard that millions of people would see. You have to decide what the billboard will say. What images will the billboard include? Who do you want to reach? How do you want to make them feel? What message do you want them to take away from it?
•    Imagine you were given a time machine for a day and you were able to travel to the future to talk to yourself. You could travel 5, 10, or 20 years from  now to greet yourself. What questions would you ask your future self? What would your future self be like? What do you think your future self would say to you? What gift would your future self give to you and what would it mean?

Please share your thoughts on this activity whenever you are ready.
