Hi Steve , glad you are with us. I'm doing the program too. Today is my first day of week 4. It hasn't been easy but it has been working. I see improvement over the weeks. Small steps towards recovery. Hope to continue to read your progress. Good luck and God bless!

Steve,

I'm glad you're here.  Honestly, this is the best place to be, for me it was.  I used to have panic attacks and agoraphobia and I haven't had an attack in over two years.  I still get anxiety some times, but I'm able to manage it, thanks to the coping skills I've learned in this program and with the help of everyone in this support group; it really made the difference.  I read a book called, Anxiety Free, the difference was, that with just the book only, the panic came back. When I came to this site and did the program, the panic did NOT come back and I believe it is due to having both CBT AND the support group.  The reason being it that you can ask questions that are specifically going on in your situation and there are so many people in the group, that someone has had a similar experience and can share what worked for them.  That's what I love about this program. Also, it is a safe place to talk, everyone is on your side and no one is judgmental.  Even if someone goes off site for awhile and wants to come back, you are always welcomed back and made to feel like you never left at all.  It's a very accepting group of people.  I know you will get better and I'm happy that you have started the program.  We are all here for you on your journey.  Please post any time.  You had very valuable information on the other thread that helped me.  So, even if you're new, you can help someone who's been here longer.  Also, you can stay on as long as you like and help other people when you've completed the program.

Welcome Steve.

You have made the first step by being open and honest. I can do all the things you want to do now. Some still with a bit of anxiety but doable. I have had major panic and changed jobs to avoid it. I have spent time in the Psych ward for a rest and a chance to look at reality in a non confused state. I also took five years to get where I am now but it was the first couple of weeks of CBT that made the biggest difference.
It is very important to realize that anxiety and panic are disorders, not diseases and quite curable. In most cases by learning control so that you do it subconscious and don't notice you are doing it. A lot of this takes study and repetition of the tools to get to this state but it does work. You can get to the point you can do anything as long as your goals are not so far out to be unrealistic.
We are a support group and that is what we do best. What works may not always make sense but it does work. Feel free to ask any questions you want. I recommend though that if you are going to do the program that you don't skip any steps and be patient. It will come to you.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the group. You are not in this alone. Anxiety can be quite debilitating but know that with hard work you can take control of this. You can lead the life you want. We can help you get there.

It is great to hear all the research you have been doing on anxiety. Knowledge really is power when it comes to anxiety disorders - the more you know, the better. However, being overwhelmed is not good. A CBT program takes time and lots of homework; rushing through it or trying to learn too much at once may be counter-productive. My advice to you is to pick one program to focus on and stick with that until completion. Chose what program you think is a right fit for you. You can always come back to the other programs when you are ready. The program here is quite an interesting tool as it works you through an entire cognitive behaviour therapy program. It also offers a lot of neat tracking tools and of course, the support group.
