Your top 3 - Summer Hobbies

13 years ago 0 659 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have been thinking about summer hobbies and decided to add a new one this year.  I grow vegetables every summer and they are doing beautifully.  So I was wondering now, what do next.  I have been trying out some creative cooking with all my new vegetables that I have grown.  I have also given a lot of vegetables away.  I have decided to take up reading again, actual hold in your hand books, that you can curl up with and read.  Not e books online.  Real paper books with a cover.  I have been reading a novel all weekend.  I have fallen in love all over again with reading.  This is going to be my main hobby for the rest of this summer.

Working on a new art project and am excited about that. Also there will be free music and entertainment at the park every week during the summer so I'm planning to try to get to that. Other than that, just the same o reading and chilling.

Oh thank you so much for sharing all of this everyone! I love to hear what's keeping you all busy this summer! It seems like outdoorsy stuff is an all around favourite activity... whether it's gardening, camping..etc.. I think our body is telling us that it wants to be closer with nature and spend time frolicking in the beauty of it.  It's important to listen to our bodies!

I am having a good time with the garden. It is hard to keep up with the weeding but it is relaxing. I also love to just chill out on the front porch sitting with hubby or reading a good book.
We also go 4-wheeling a lot but ours is broken right now, another couple weeks and we will be getting it fixed so we can go again. We go to friends houses and have a cookout and when it gets dark light a bonfire.
Last weekend we went to my friends house out on a lake and it was so peaceful and nice.
I love having the kids home all summer, I know most parents like when school starts but it is nice to spend good time with them too. We have only been camping once this year but plan on going at the end of July for the weekend with about 6 or 7 other families. We usually have fun with that too.

oops I think that is way more than three  :)

I love camping and hiking and portaging - though I don't think I could portage much now.  My problem is I have no one to go with and it's been awhile now, wonder if I can still do it.  None of my girlfriends are into the outdoors.  I always camped by myself with my kids and the dog, and when my parents had a cottage we could borrow that, but again by myself with the kids.  My daughters have one child each now, my son lives out west and he loves the wild outdoors - hikes the mountains whenever he can and brings his boys.  But as you know I will be taking his children camping in August for a few days with  other two families.  Nothing too wild and woodsy as my daughters are not into that - more like family camping at a park, which is o.k. maybe that's all I can do this summer anyway.  Can't wait for the campfires, my favourite part of the day.  Lots of shooting stars in August too, so like to lie in the open just watching for them.  Will have to let you know how tired I am when I get back. lol
I still do lots of gardening.  Put my back out for the first time in my whole life.  Never had a sore back before (not even when I was pregnant) and considered myself very lucky.  I moved the cement birdbath when I redid the circular rose garden and I must have turned carrying it.    Well, it won't have to be done again for a few years.
I also like reading on the back porch, all screened in and pleasant in the evenings.  I can hear the pond spitter spurting water into the little ornamental pond, a nice relaxing sound.  I can see the birdbath from there too and I have binoculars to watch them when they bathe.  really cute.  It's the big birds first, the bluejays, then the robins, then the house sparrows, etc. right after dinner, 6:30ish.  They do come for a drink during the day too sometimes.  Have never seen the cardinals bathe though. Oh, and there is a hummingbird which comes around. Lots of bees around the flowers - and wasps (?) the skinnier ones.  From my house I can see the ships go by and hear their foghorns at night - peaceful to me.

I only have one hobby left for the summer and that is gardening and I am having difficulty with that. I would like to be hiking, canoeing, fishing and camping but they are right now things of the past and actually have been for a while. In winter I will do some woodwork. I hope the rest of you have found something interesting to do.

Laying in my hammock (although not very active, the swaying back in forth elicits in me a feeling of calm it's similar to being rocked by your mother as a child), eating outside (even with the bugs and bees), swimming and playing outside with my family.

Would love to hear what everyone else does in the summer?

Members,

Summer is a great time to incorporate new hobbies or interests into our lives! With the lovely sunshine and long days what 3 hobbies will you try?
