So Sleepy....

I would highly recommend researching side effects.  Arming yourself with information before talking to your doctor would be a good idea. I would research the drug myself however we are not allowed to offer medical advice on the support group.

Ladypugh,

Welcome to the program and support group.  I also think talking to your doctor again is a good idea.  I am sorry you are feeling so bad. If your sleeping problems are caused by panic and not a physical problem than this program will help you a great deal. Even if it is a physical problem, this program will help you deal with the panic it is causing. You have nothing to lose by working the program and joining in the support group.  I used to wake up all night about every 2 hours in a panic and after working this program I am sleeping much better. I now only wake up a couple of times a night with no panic and most nights I sleep right on through without waking up at all.  Let us know how you are doing and post when ever you want to or feel the need to. It just might help you sleep better.

Ladypugh,

I am sorry you are feeling this way.  I think talking to your doctor about this is a good idea.  Bringing up the medication is also a good idea.

Have you done some research on common side effects?  How long have you been on the medication?

@Davit,

I thought of that so I stopped taking the Cipro that they gave me to take for the UTI and will be asking the Dr about that today. I'm still taking the BP medicine though.

I was able to go back to sleep and slept for an hour before I woke up again with the same panic. I immediately defined that it was an opinion dream and to stop! There was almost a physical pop and I was able to go back to sleep again. I dont think I got very much more sleep when I became restless and woke up. Since waking up I have been in a constant state of anxiety although for the most part its hitting at around a 5 on the anxiety scale.

I've been trying to do box breathing but its almost as if it keeps occuring because I cannot get it off my mind. Not really sure where to go with it from there. I tried reading my Bible, praying, listening to music and looking at my facebook page...none of which is working.

ladypugh.

We are all talking about our panic here and what we do for it but we may be missing something important here. Just the way the panic hit you and the fact that you BP didn't go down sounds like you may be reacting to some medication. Also the fact that you thought you had food poisoning. I react to my antibiotic very strongly but I know it so I can control it some what. If you are taking something or have changed something to make your BP rise or cause you nausea your system will see it as foreign and react with the fight or flight syndrome that is the precursor to panic. Hang in there. If I am wrong on this then we will have at least ruled out a medical reason and can go on to treating it like a mental condition. If your Doc starts you on a SSRI you may be very sick for a week till it works. She will most likely also put you on a benzo to hold you till it does take effect.  Been in the same boat as you. Keep telling yourself that this will go because it will. Keep writing, it will keep it right and straight in your mind. We are here for you. You can fix this.

Davit, here for you.

Welcome Ladypugh,

First of all I have to say good for you.  You have been through a lot in these past few days and you are still striving to find answers. You are courageous and resourceful.  The qualities will certainly help you through this.  You should be very proud of yourself.

This program and this support group will be a great asset to you.   Be sure to stick with it and make a plan to work on it and post every day.  You will see results.  Let us know how your appointment goes with your doctor.  We are all here to support you.  You are not alone in this.

Did you manage to sleep at all today?  We will all be checking in to see how you are doing.

 Stay strong!

Hi ladypugh!
In response to your last statement, yes you CAN fall back asleep and if you keep facing this problem head-on and take charge of it, you will be able to have more restful sleeps like you used to.
That is great that you took immediate action and looked for help right away.  Many of us suffer for months or years and it's such a horrible feeling to have anxiety that it's not a rut that anyone wants to get into.
Keep up the can-do attitude that you have!

I'm very new to this as my panic attacks just started happening on Sunday. It started with some nausea before I went to bed on Sunday. Shortly after falling asleep I woke up with severe shortness of breath (and the generalized fear that goes along with that), rapid heartbeat, hot/cold flashes, dry heaves.

Went to the Dr. next day thinking I had food poisoning or something and got told my BP was up and gave me some medicine for that and Cipro for a UTI. I wasnt able to hold down any solid food that whole day and it took some friends coming over and just talking around me to let me fall asleep. Next day I was still anxious but I was able to hold it together until I went to bed. Fell asleep and again woke up with the same symptoms to the point where I had my mom take me to the ER. Was monitored the whole night and my heart rate didnt drop below 100 for most of the night, every time I would start to fall asleep my body would jerk me awake. After a battery of tests no physical explanation was available and they discharged me.
I had the same problem tonight went to sleep and woke up in a panic with the knowledge that I had somehow made a wrong decision in my dream?
Thats how you find me here so early in the morning. Being the analytical person I started evaluating what was happening to me and when it was happening. After reading through session 1 I know that I need to keep track of what is going on and am going to start doing so. I also made another appt with my PC to talk with her about it. So I really think forearmed is forewarned.

Here is to hoping I can fall back asleep sometime today.
