Setbacks with chronic headaches

JGD84,

I wanted to know two things: Did you ever in the past 5 years take any long term medications? Do you feel that the journalling has been extremely helpful in helping you get to a place where you are confident in saying it is just the anxiety?

Thanks,

Tam

If all your tests are Ok then you may be just Calcium deficient. You may be even if tests say your not. You have the symptoms. Simple test. 1 gram calcium 3 times a day on an empty stomach on your worst day. Panic should be reduced within the fist half hour and gone by the last dose. It's worth ruling out.  If Texan Femme is reading this, Page 320 of the anxiety and phobia book.

Hi Leanna,

Thank you for sharing with us. As JGD said, regarding they symptoms you are experiencing it may be advisible to see a doctor. Once that is clear you can focus on working on your panic. Have you had the chance to work through the online program yet? The online program will provide you with exercises to help you with the panic. It must be difficult, considering this is beginning to get in the way of your work. Make a game plan and begin to take control. As always, we are here to support you!

Leanna,

I think you're correct that your symptoms (dizziness, heart palpitations and headache) are all stress induced.  To make yourself feel better, go to the doctor and get yourself checked out.  Once you're cleared, know that it's only anxiety and it won't kill you.

I've had several bad panic attacks over the last 5 years, starting when my son was born.  Usually 1 hospitalization a year, only to be cleared.

I've finally gotten to the point where I KNOW it's just anxiety.  Not that it's not scary sometimes... or painful... but I KNOW it will pass.  I'll admit there are time when I am 'hypervigilant' and check my pulse or am worried about some other illness, but the I've kept a journal since October and go back and read how many times I was "dying" and realize it all passed.

My last ER visit was in Sept... I've had @ 3 'bad' attacks since, but was able to breathe through them and calm myself down... no easy, but it can be done.  If you need medication, even if it makes you sleepy, I would take it.  At some point you'll find yourself controlling the symptoms better... it may take a couple of months... but as a friend told me, you didn't get this way overnight so the answer will take some time!  Be patient and kind to yourself... getting control of the situation and getting better by working the plan is key.

I'm back at work and doing well for the most part. However, I have been experiencing daily headaches since I've gone back. Yesterday, I woke up with anxiety and fought my way through most of the day. By 2:30 I was out of control. I felt like I was being attacked and became very freightened by everyone and everything. I work in a clinic and I ended up closing myself in an exam room. I called in a Nurse Practitioner who tried talking me through it. She suggested I take another dose of Klonopin, which makes me sleepy. My husband came to pick me up.
I was upset that I became out of control and had to leave work once again. I feel that I could've done something to help prevent this, but I did everything I could. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I was filled with extreme fear.
When I wake up with a certain level of anxiety it usually turns into a panic attack sometime during the day. How can I prevent this from happening? Now I'm at the point that I'm scared all day when I wake up with anxiety. I try fighting the heart palpitations, detachment, and dizzines, but before I know it I'm freaking out.
I feel like my headaches are created from stress which doesn't help anything. Although I'm a lot better than where I was a couple of months ago, I'm still having trouble coping with these anxiety days especially at work. I can't continue leaving work otherwise I'm sure I'll end up without a job.
