I had a bit of a set-back. The good thing is I had an honest conversation with my husband. So I’m hoping and going to try no wine this week. I always appreciate your check-ins. They help keep me in check!

Hey Sabastian.  I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling.  I think the thread you are referring to is called New Here.  The It is under the main forum heading of Health Educator's Corner.  Click on that tab and it should be the second discussion under this discussion that is titled Thanks Ashley.  If you can't get to it, no worries, just reply here.

Hi Lynn, I’m not sure why but I can’t login to the forum we started. Any suggestions. I’d like to  reply to the message you sent. I’ve been struggling a bit.

Hi Lynn,

This is also what my goal is. Stop for 3 months and then reassess. I think it is easier to "digest" bit at the time.

Thank you for your sharing.

Thanks hors controle.  The advice Ashley gave really did change my life.  When I was finally able to go a week or two without drinking I thought I would go a few more weeks then reaccess where I was.  Ashleys statement that addiction counselors suggest going 3 months then reaccessing was huge for me.  Never would I have gone that long and if I had drank again after a few weeks or a month, I honestly believe I would be drinking now.

When I decided to wait the 3 months the pressure was lifted.  No wondering when or if I was going to drink, I was GOING to do the 3 months.  It was hard but it taught me a lot about myself and I began to learned to live again.  When the 3 months was over I knew I could live without alcohol and haven't touched it again.  I don't even allow myself a nonalcoholic beer because I'm afraid it might make me want more.  If I had a drink today, I would probably go right back to my old ways of daily drinking.  My alcohol free life is much better than my drinking life so it's just not worth the risk.

So, all of that was to say that this site is very helpful.  You never know what statement that is write or read will change someone's life.  I'm sure Ashley has given that advice a million times over her time here but that one time was the time that it affected me and I am grateful.

Lynn123!

You are so very welcome. It makes me so happy to hear how well you are doing and how much you are able to appreciate life now. You deserve it.  All the credit of your success goes to you. It is no easy task to take advice and then fight an addiction.  YOU are amazing for achieving the life you wanted. I hope you give yourself lots of self love and pats on the back. You did it and you are still doing it. Amazing and inspirational!

Thank you so much for posting,

Ashley,

I thanked you in 2016 in this thread, and I am back to thank you again.  This August will mark 4 years alcohol free and I am thankful for the advice I received on this site.  At this point, it’s hard for me to believe that I was a drinker. Recently I have even began planning visit to places I vacationed because, quite honestly, I don’t remember the time I was there because I was drank too much.

In the beginning of my alcohol free life, I would often reflect on the time I spent drinking. I would usually get angry at the time that I wasted.  I now look at it as a life lesson and try not to waste anymore of my time. I no longer allow the contents of a bottle to dictate my life. Life is meant to be lived, not controlled.

So again, thank you Ashley for the advice that you gave and the work you do on this site.  You change lives. I know because your advice changed mine.

With sincere appreciation,

Lynn

Julie,

That is wonderful that you are able to work through your stuff---and without alcohol!  Congratulations!  I am sure that it is hard, but things that are done right are sometimes the hardest but last the longest.

Things are good with me.  I continually find things I am able to do now the burden of alcohol is gone.  I usually drank at home, isolated myself, just me and my drink of choice.  If I went out with friends I would only drink one or two drink--didn't want anyone to know how much I actually drank---then come home and have my normal 6-7 drinks.  Being without alcohol allows me to do WHATEVER I want to do, WHENEVER I want to do it!  So freeing as I am sure you have found as well.

Good luck as your journey continues!

Hi Lynn123,

Things are going well for me; thanks for asking.  I am finding that I am willing and able to work through some emotional stuff that kept me drinking.  Hard to do but so worthwhile.  Slowly but surely life keeps getting better and the challenges, I can face with clear eyes and a clear conscience.
How are things going for you Lynn123?
