Congratulations Jakelad, well done. I don't think there is anything better than sharing your journey with others so that they can learn and have hope. Awesome.

Few things happening I am speaking for the first time tomorrow night. Kinda looking forward to giving back a little bit to the program that has given me everything. Not nervous at all message will be about hitting rock bottom, being defeated enough to ask for help and humble enough to take it.
Also, on March 22 my home group will be celibrating my first year of sobriety. Proof that the program really works. Needing it is not enough, I needed it 10 years ago maybe 20 wanting it means everything. I wanted it after hitting rock bottom.
Thanks to everyone here, I actually have a life.

Well thank you, I am proud yet very humble. I drank for 25 years, I look at that as a 25 mile walk into the woods, it is 25 miles to walk out so my journey back has just begun. I know that if I picked up a drink today, I would be right back to where I was 9 months ago in little or no time. I will not forget my last drunk. I will always hold onto that pain.

Thats awesome Bert, congrats on 9 months. For me, though, I didn't lose all, but I was spiritually bankrupt. If I had not changed I am sure I have lost external stuff also. Today, I am positive that if i continue to grow spiritually I can lead a relatively serene life.

I recieved a 9 month chip last night. March 9 was my last drink.
I tell you all this as proof that it works. I woke up March 10 totally defeated, no longer wanted to live. Wife, kids, boat, hot tub, cars, house, friends everything was GONE. 25 years of boozing, lying, cheating, stealing allowed me to hit an all time rock bottom.
The desire to stop dying gave me the strength to walk into my first AA meeting on March 10. I did 90 meetings in 90 days to allow the fog to lift. I was humble enough to as for help. In AA it is the obligation of every member to help and they do. I leaned that I must pickup the phone to save me from pickup a drink. Today 9 months later I am on the path to good sobriety even see times of serenity.
My Rock bottom was it for me, I became willing to do anything to stay sober. so far it is working
If I am struggling I look to fill my mine with trying to help others. That is why I writing this, possibly these words will help another drink stay sober today, I know that allowing me to share here helps me.
I hope your sobriety date never changes.

Tradition 3 - The only requirement for AA membership is the desire to stop drinking. What is AA Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. As Foxman said, the 7th tradition helps to pay for coffee, rent, books ect. Some stress about giving but please do not worry. It is simply pocket change if you have it great if not do not let that hinder getting sober. As for how I feel. I have to say, without question, I have never felt better in my life. I am leaning how to deal with situations that once would baffle me. I am calm when before I would be mad. I can look in the mirror now and not want to punch myself in the face LOL. If anyone decided to go to AA they can expect to meet the nicest most helpful people you have ever met. Why are they so nice and eager to help? Cause they where once a new comer. Helping others reminds the long time sober man what it was like and in turn keeps himself sober another day.

It does not cost much. Usually members contribute a buck or 2 in the USA. You don't even have to contribute if you don't have money. Its all self-financed by the members. Its one of the traditions of Alcoholics anonymous:

7.  Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.

You can find local meetings around your area by plugging in the address at:

I know it is my ego that may bring this post saying that I am 8 month sober I justify it by thinking possibly me showing how great my life is now that a new comer may want what I have or a person that is troubled my stay sober today because of me sharing. 8 months ago, I was on a 2.5 year bender. drinking Rye in large amounts every day. Lost my wife, kids, house, cars, boat and my will to live. March 9 I drank a 40 of rye and a bottle of pills, I tried to end it all. That's where booze took me. In 8 months through the steps of AA I am seeing the 12 promises coming try. I am honest with myself and love my life. I am certain I will stay sober today and if I do I will try and do the same things tomorrow. Thanks again everyone, I wish you all a sober 24 hrs..
