Jenny, It has been two weeks since I have had any alcohol.  Your story inspires me to keep going.  I had a dear friend that had a double mastectomy, but it wasn't the cancer that killed her.  She had consumed a whole bottle of Chardonnay, fell down some stairs,  hit her head and died.  Stay strong and LIVE!

I liked what you posting said about control.  Yes, it seems to be about never letting go of control and not using alochol as an easy method of gettring rid of stress.  Easier said than done when it is a habit of a lifetime.

It has been almost three months since I decided to get a handle on my drinking.  During that time I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I have had the surgery and now I will be undergoing radiation at the end of September.  The prognosis is good and I am feeling well and strong.

My goal was always to quit drinking completely and then come back to what the Canadian Cancer Society recommends as no more that one drink a day and no more than three drinks total a week. I have been following these guidelines for the last three weeks or so.

I have been able to do this thus far.  It was really helpful to quit for the 2+ months and let go of the habit of using alcohol as an easy method of getting rid of stress.  I have looked for other ways to handle stress.

I find I need to stay strong and say "No thanks, I am just having one", or on days I am not drinking, "No thanks".  For me it is all about not just letting go of control  like I used to and knowing there are no easy ways to get rid of stress or feelings.  It's not easy and I still approach every day  with resolve and a plan, but I feel so much more positive and ready for my future.
