Avatars & Screen-names

The information about your personal choices for avatars has been very uplifting. And it all makes sense. I was so pleased to hear the positive aspects about those choices. They are wonderful reasons.

I could very well be wrong, but sometimes I sense a fear from posts (my own included) of thinking positively - it's almost like thinking positively sets us up for failure. If we never think positively, we can never be disappointed. It sounds like it makes sense but it absolutely does NOT make sense. It just makes us miserable because we never truly 'live' our lives in an authentic way.

My dad suffered some terribly tragic hardships in his life, and he never got excited about anything again. He has now lived for 40 years like that. He never looks forward to anything, never can acknowledge things that make him happy (or sad). He has just numbed himself to everything. What a shame to do that for 40 years! He has missed out on so much that I truly think he doesnt realize he can/could have. This is one of the main things that keeps me going when I also do not want to set goals/think positively/ etc etc just in case I 'fail'. But really there is no such thing as failing - there is just building a bridge and moving on.

Best wishes, folks!

PS My screen name is chosen simply because I like the name, and I haven't yet found the right picture!
PPS Sorry I cannot comment on any blogs - my version of the AHC does not let me access (or write) blogs.

OK ~mnut - avatar explained ...... as you requested :)
My nickname or screen name here is derived from me being an avid runner most of my life - it was what defined me.  Lately I have not been doing as much, opting for biking and rowing instead.  BUT, I've always loved to run, mostly alone, giving me time to think, and to challenge myself.  Hence, the long, long straight road seemingly to nowhere, when a runner finds the inner strength to say "OK - I can do this".
In retrospect, I guess it might be assumed that I was "runner" because I was running away from something ..... and MAYBE - just MAYBE - I was (insert picture of light-bulb here) !!!
I'll say it here, and in your blog later, but yes - I have been struggling lately to keep my focus on cutting down to where I was last month - Month 2 seems to be tougher because I made Month 1 a true inner-goal.  I've got to get it back.
I've got to get back to seeing that long, long rambling road ahead and saying - YES, I CAN do this .....
And I will,
Many times while running, especially in races, it's easy to let your mind trick your body into wanting to quit ...... and I never let it happen.
I'm not about to let it happen now.
Thanks ~mnut for asking about my avatar - now you know a bit more about me :)
Positive reinforcement .... it's nice.
How about others ???????

Thank you Tiana for the extra push to do it now!  I'm glad you like her too

Thank you for sharing your reasons here... I was inspired by your screen-name, thinking I needed to find something strong like that because you inspire me so.  And thanks for offering your approval... as always when I start to be strong and do something different, I almost immediately doubt myself.  I expected to log on this morning and either have no comments from anyone or see my new Avatar removed for being inappropriate or if it hadn't been removed, I was going to do it.  I'm learning I need people too.

I love your rowing picture and the reasons behind it.  As for my dreams, I never allowed myself to have any.  I've always let life happen to me.  I am hoping that is all about to change :)

~mnut

I love your new avatar.  It makes sense to pick a name and avatar that you can relate to, but also something that can inspire and bring out your strengths.  I picked the screen name Athena to remind myself that I can be strong if I set my mind to it.  At first, when I started writing here, I felt foolish and self-conscious about my choice.  Now I am really glad I chose it.

I picked the rowing picture as my avatar partly because it is peaceful but also because I used to row.  It is one of the most satisfying sports I have ever tried.  It is so efficient.  Every bit of energy you put in is translated into smooth, powerful, forward motion.  It is not effortless, but there is very little resistance.  I hope that this can be a positive image for me moving forward.

Never give up on your dreams mnut (without the weak spine... )

Look what I found!

The myths of the goddess Nut instruct us to never give up our hold on our precious dreams.  She reminds us to persevere and to accept the help of others when we need it.

You can find more info and my reasons for choosing her on my blog.

Hi ~m,

Go to Forums, and click on the link for Support Group Options. There you will be able to upload a new pic and change your signature, which is your nickname. And I want you to do that today! Find a pic that is representative of the strong, insightful, tenacious, loving woman that you are! I know you can find that appreciation and respect for yourself.

Is it ok to change our Avatars & Screen-names?  If so, where do we go to do that.

And a related question:

What does your avatar and/or screen-name reflect about you?
Why did you choose them?  What is the meaning for you?

As for me, my signature/screen-name (~m) is something I've used elsewhere too.  The tilde (~) represents my figurative spine.... weak and wobbly, or wishy-washy.  The small "m" is reflective of insignificance... and when I'm feeling invisible it just drops to "n".  I am beginning to see that as a negative way to describe myself (even if no else knows what it means to me).  And the picture of the beagle puppy ... she is totally cute, but she also looks defeated and defenseless... spineless even.  I think I want to choose something more positive.

Just some random thoughts on a Saturday...
