Today marks 7 weeks now!! Funny you ask about smell and taste! My company has several buildings, one of which is notorious for smelling funkalicious. I went over there last week, and HOLY CRAP I can't believe how bad it smelled! The smoking had masked it so much, it hit me like a brick wall! So, the enhanced smell experience is a pretty mixed bag ? The enhanced taste experience is amazing! I am able to cut out a lot of salt, since I can actually TASTE my food now!

One more huge positive for me: I am a singer, and I have been having major issues with all the junk in my lungs coming up and effectively not allowing me to sing properly since I quit. I was afraid that I would need to learn how to sing all over again with my new non-smoking voice. Professional musical theater is my part time job, and has been for many years, so the prospect of not being able to work again was very daunting. But, last week, I was cooking and singing along to a favorite show and realized that not only is my voice back, it is better than ever. I now realize how much harder I had to work at singing just to be a smoker! I look forward to lots more roles (and extra pay checks!) in the future!

BIG congratulations on being smoke free for 6 weeks already! ? Glad you got over the bathroom door latch too. LMAO. ? It's also good to hear that your cravings have dropped way off, but be sure and keep your guard up. Those cravings are sneaky will sneak up on you and try and make you cave in. How's the fresh air smelling for you now? Are you tasting things you haven't experienced in years? Keep the quit going.

Hi All, thanks for the well wishes. Today marks 6 weeks smoke free, and I feel fantastic. While I do occasionally still think about smoking, I no longer have actual cravings or urges. I look back at this post, and I'm so glad to say that I can laugh at it now. I remember this day vividly, and how hard it was. It is that memory that will help me not ever smoke again, because I NEVER want to go through that again!

For those of you just starting your quit journey, or are thinking about starting, stay strong. If I, a 2 pack a day smoker can do it, ANYONE can do it :)

Your post made me laugh - not laughing at you, just laughing with you crying over the door latch  ln all seriousness emotions run so high when quitting. You just want everything to run smoothly so nothing triggers you but life being as it is that rarely happens. Tim gave you great advice about the breathing. In the beginning l tried to avoid stress of any kind to the point of staying home much as possible.  Remember that the emotion passes and if it happens at work....so what, tell people youre stressed about quitting. A tactic someone mentioned is grounding - see 5 things or hear 4 things or touch 3 things or smell 2 things or taste one. I havent tried that one but it sounds ok. Keep up the good work and keep us posted!

 Welcome to the Stop Smoking Center website. Congratulations on being smoke free for three days already. Sorry to hear about the idiot that pulled in front of you today. Even though your emotions were being pulled in every direction, you did not cave in to that darn Nico-Demon.You passed that test with flying colors, good for you!!!  Deep breathing helps to calm the nerves and the urges. Slowly in through the nose, hold a sec then slowly out through the mouth. Do it a few times and you'll be surprised how much calmer you are. I still use the breathing exercises today, 5+ years after quitting. "Any advice for getting over those random, weird emotional moments?" I wish I had some words of wisdom for you about those emotions, but I don't. They are something that each quitter needs to re-learn how to deal with in their own way without a cigarette. Time is about the only thing that really helps. Trust me, you will re-gain control of them eventually, it just takes time. Humor helps too. When things are looking down, try and think of something funny about the situation to put a grin on your face. After all, humor IS the best medicine. 
 Hey look at you. You're on day six already. Hell week is almost over for you. Next comes heck week. It might be easier than hell week, but it might be harder too. All depends on your frame of mind. If you keep your confidence up, it should help you out. Determination goes a long way in helping you quit forever. Keep us posted on your progress okay?
