Breather,
Thanks..I am hoping that everyone you comes to this site reads this thread..I would hate for anyone to miss it..I know I have said this before but I have to say it again  the slogans H.A.L.T  HALTED  and Just for Today  aka  TRY  have helped me more than anything with my quit on more occasions than I can count..
If this is brainwashing than I am grateful to have my brains cleaned up whenever they need cleaning with something as simple as one of these little slogans because they help me stay quit in a Big way..I find once you know them they really stick with you and come to mind whenever needed..Whenever I think of lighting up H.A.L.T. comes to mind, it is something that I can count on being there when I need it and it makes me think first, it holds me accountable, it brings me down to earth as they say and gives me that little bit of time I need to think rationally...So far this has saved my quit every time..and I am grateful for this because I really don't want or need to ever smoke again..

Roses Thank you for the bump. It isn't enough to talk the talk but we need to learn to walk the walk as well. Thank you for reminding me of this Roses. You're awesome. Some people say that slogans are a form of brainwashing. I say that maybe our brains needed to go through the wash cycle to get rid of some of our old stinking thinking habits to make room for our attitude of recovery. The secret of recovery isn't a secret at all but a change in attitude sufficient to bring about this process. I for one would do well to remember this. I can't , We can. breather. That's breather with a small b to remind me that the Addict is bigger than I am.

Since no one is using this thread I thought I'd post some thoughts on it that might be helpful. The slogan H.A.L.T. is a powerful tool against relapse and especially helpful in the early days of the quit. It was and still is for me anyway. Hungry , Angry , Lonely or Tired. I blew a 6 week quit one time because I finished working night shift and stayed awake whereas if I had the good sense to go to sleep the outcome would have been more productive. The point is to not just pay lip service to these emotions because they can send us back smoking in a heartbeat. Don't let yourself get too H.A.L.T. Take care of yourself and don't allow yourselves to get too bent out of shape. I don't know about anyone else but in the early days I was like a firecracker waiting to blow up and needed to keep my emotions in check. Anyway I think H.A.L.T. is important. Excellent for you. breather
Bumping this thread up and passing it on for all the new and seasoned quitters celebrating their freedom today..

Thanks, everyone! Red, I hope you're doing well and had a good weekend. It's wonderful to have this support, it means so much to know all of you have come before us and are ready to help us through! I'm doing pretty well, although I noticed after being at a friend's birthday party which was in a bar where there was a LOT of smoking and the ventilation wasn't good that I had a headache and the cravings were pretty intense today. But, I didn't smoke!!

Hi Alexa, Red and breather;
 Wow! Those are great words of advice breather!    If we can break it down to just get through those bad moments, we can make it!  What a great way to get through 'a bad day'.
So sorry to hear that you're feeling tough today Red.  You've been doing so great and have been so supportive and inspirational to many here since you've joined SSC.  You're chocking up the stats like no one's business and it's so nice to have your input here : )
Welcome Alexa!  You've done so well to get through these first 23 days of your quit!  We do have our down times, no doubt, but you've sailed through this far and you'll find it does get easier to handle the cravings as you work out more and more of the emotional situations that trigger your desire to reach for that cigarette.  It's a learning & eye opening experience for sure! I wish I could just wrap you and Red up in a big warm blanket and tell you " It's OK!  All is well!"  In fact, I have no idea what the future will bring - but I can send best wishes your way, lots of support and many congrats for making it through a tough day. And I hope you all  have a Great day tomorrow!

I love the idea of starting "A New"..Like you said..It was just a bad moment, it doesn't have to be a entirely bad day..So here's to starting a New day..

Alexa & Red It's good to see that you are helping each other to get through the low times. We get the support that we need that way. I haven't forgotten that at 22 days to just make it to the end of the day without caving in was an accomplishment. Maybe it's time for some retail therapy ?   We think that we have bad days when the reality of it is that we only have bad moments. A lot happens in a day both good and bad. We have no control over what happens but we do have control over how we deal with it. It's our choice. If we're having a bad day we can choose to start a new day anytime we want to. Don't forget to reward yourselves , however small. The smoker that can stop for even one day is a miracle and you're the proof that it can be done. Be a miracle one day at a time. Yay for you. Excellent.  breather

Hi Red, I love reading your posts, your words inspire me. I'm struggling here on day 22...I'm glad to know others have gone through this and come out stronger for it, I know I need to try to just get through each day and choose not to smoke like you said. I can do this!
