Thanks to all have responded for the feedback. I was considering some hypnosis sessions to help with some of the psychological/ behavioral patterns. I'm up to only smoking after work now (nicotine lozenze during the day), and I'm finding that my "baby steps" are working for me. I'm to the point where I no longer miss the behavior of smoking in the morning or at breaks or lunch. I've also forgotten some doses of the nicotine lozenze, which I see as a good sign. Next step (tomorrow) will be to eliminate the cigarettes in the car ride home. I'm assuming that will stress me out for about a week and become less stressful during the second week, just as the removal of each of the previous behaviors has gone.
 
However, this brings me one step closer to letting go of that final one. The idea of "the last one" is what gives me the most anxiety. I was hoping that something in the hypnosis might help with that. Sounds like the answer is "maybe yes and maybe no."
 
I'm off to check out the blog now. Hope to find something positive there to wrap my mind around.

In answer to your question about whether Hypnosis helped anyone.......
 
I tried using it on its own 3 times, but each time I failed....NOT the Hypnosis!   I really did not understand the addiction and all the levels of it.  Finally I  made a decision to have a once and for all quit, and I also found this site.  I studied all the aspects of quitting and talked to folk here.  I set a date and went for it with everything I had and what was available out there.
 
With medical supervision, I used Zyban, Nicotine Patches, Nicotine Gum, Hypnosis(from previous personal tapes I had...these gave relaxation,) SSC posting, a positive attitude, and an understanding of what it takes to succeed in a quit.
 
Having done all this, I was as ready as I could be, and Surprise!  It worked!  In other words, Hypnosis on its own may work for some people, but as has been said, there is not a lot of evidence to support this idea.  I thought it would be easy using Hypnosis alone...It did not work!
 
The most important thing I used was a strong mind-set and determination that nothing would make me ever smoke again!!!
 
Stay here with the quitters on SSC, read, learn and post, and you will find your quit getting easier with each day.   It seems to me you realise that you need to prepare...that alone will help you.

NLP coaching is a form of life coaching. It has to do with the language you use. I don't know too much about this vein of coaching so you might want to do a google search to get the most accurate information.
 
I am a certified coative coach. We use coaching techniques while moderating and throughout the program content. Life Coaching is a relatively new helping profession. It is similar to therapy only we do not diagnose problems or delve into past issues. We don't focus to much on the why and we assume our clients are naturally resourceful and whole. There are a number of techniques coaches use to get you thinking, motivated, set goals and change your perspective. If you are considering coaching please be sure you chose a coach that is certified through the ICF (International Coaches Federation). Since it is a relatively new field it is not regulated as much as other therapies.  The ICF is the leading global organization regulating the profession.

I cannot offer any personal experience in hypnosis but I can show you some information found in the online program on hypnosis:
 
Hypnosis

What is it? Hypnosis therapy is designed to help you focus on your nicotine consumption patterns and to change your attitudes about smoking or chewing in ways that will help you quit. Hypnosis often involves 1 to 4 hour sessions and may include the development of a personal program tape to use at home after or in between sessions.

How does it work? While you are hypnotized, the therapist gives you suggestions to help you stop your nicotine use. The procedure may help with relaxation and withdrawal symptoms.

What else should I know? Your chances of quitting after just one hypnosis session are low, but may improve with multiple sessions. However, there is little evidence that the hypnotic state helps people quit above and beyond the suggestions provided by the therapist. In addition, hypnosis can be both expensive and time consuming. If you choose this method, be sure to check the costs, time commitment and your therapist's qualifications.
 
If you are interested in focusind on the underlying issues of smoking you may want to consider NLP or Coactive Coaching also.

I'd really like to get at the emotional attachment in order to let smoking go. It feels like that may need to be addressed on unconscious levels, as well as conscious ones, for me.
 
Has hypnosis helped anybody here to quit? I tried it one time, with a student hypnosis therapist, and it didn't do anything. I lit up in the car on the way out of the parking lot. However, I also had a good experience with subconscious reprogramming therapy (a variant on hypnosis) when dealing with another issue. Plus, I was also told that the results are related to the skill of the therapist. I'm wondering if this is worth trying.
