Jeremiah, congratulations. Sleep was a huge issue for me, after a few days I was cranky, irritable and couldn't think straight. I tried a natural supplement Melatonin, smallest dose they sell, gave myself an 8hr window, slept like the dead. I've only had to take it that one night, but it worked and it allowed me to my head in check. I quit with an NRT (patch) which has allowed me to focus on the mental side of things. Not to say I didn't have withdrawl symptoms, I did. You can do it, just hold your ground, stay busy and hang out here as often as you need (great people, and great information). As Jim said, keep telling yourself you can, and you will, attitude is everything.

Hey Jeremiah!!!

Welcome and congratulations for your success so far!  I have noticed that you have completed a couple of the milestones in the Program...  continue on with the others, as some of the information there is sure to be helpful!  Besides using Chantix to help with the craves, I basically lived on this site for quite a while!  I read everything I could here to learn what it takes to beat this nasty addiction!  Try other distractions, too!  Change your routine, if possible, because that will help keep your mind focused on something different!  Keep telling yourself that you CAN do this!!  Those positive affirmations really help, too!

You are really doing great so far!  When those smoking thoughts enter your mind, try doing something different, read something, take a walk... there's bound to be several things that will help get your mind off the demon!  The important thing is to just get through the thought, the crave or whatever one at a time!  You'll notice that as time goes on that the smoking thoughts will become less frequent and it will be easier and easier to deal with!  Deal with it one minute, one hour and one day at a time as you are now doing and you WILL be successful!

You are a non-smoker now!  Rejoice in that knowledge every time you have a smoking thought!  Revel in all the positives that are now yours and that will also help when the smoking thoughts come!  You smell better, your breath is fresher, your clothes don't stink, you'll be breathing better, you're not feeding the addiction the tobacco company has for your money... there are many, many more benefits to celebrate as a non-smoker!!!  It may take a bit, but once you get that positive mind set going it will make this journey more tolerable!  Hang in there, buddy!!!

         Jim

Hi Jeremiah and welcome to SSC. I understand exactly what you're saying. I was lucky enough too not to have any physical cravings, but every where I looked I seemed to be surrounded by smokers and even on tv too! I even dreamt about smoking which was really bizarre! It does pass eventually but I think its because its such a momentous step we've taken to quit that our thoughts both consciously and sub consciously are consumed by what we are trying to achieve.
When I was a smoker, I never saw anyone smoking but after I quit they were everywhere!- Anyway, 3 days is awesome, keep it up, stay active on the site it does help to share how you're feeling, we've all been there and are only too happy to help- Good luck.
