cold turkey!

13 years ago 0 823 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
HI KIWI   Thanks so much for the suggestion of the Allen Carr 'Easyway' book for us COLD TURKEY quitters. I have heard this book mentioned a few times and will look into it for sure.  I start Day 15 tomorrow, so am just 1 hr away from completing Heck Week as a NOPE quitter!  Got through weekend 2 and seems easier to stick to the program on week days -Thanx for the encouragement and supportIt helps a lot!
YAY JoDee!  Let's Do IT! You were looking forward to posting this week when you got 7 days - and now you're already here! That first weekend is tough, but your strategy was good.  I googled the Scrabble dictionary and NOPE is an acceptable Scrabble word (go figure!).  So I think you're right - for those of us finally getting around to our Forever Quit - it should be worth at least 100 bonus points!  LOL

BTW, Nope should have a 100 word bonus points in scrabble.

Hi Eya, A few years ago I quit Cold Turkey as well.

May i suggest if you haven't already, get hold of the Allen Carr 'Easyway' book. I read it when i quit & i found it helped to put things in perspective . I also found out recently 8 of my work colleagues read this book when they quit cold turkey ......... years ago. This has to be a good thing right ?

Cold turkey may seem 'tough love' initially but you get where you want to go pretty damn quick....... just think of it as a journey.

I believe, the harder you have it when you quit the easier it is to stay quit.

Good on ya !

Thanks for the encouragement.  I have had a moody week, but am determined!  My first weekend does scare me.  In fact, I am walking out the door right now to have my Friday happy hour with my gang.  We go to a place by the office and usually have a smoke on the way over.  They are meeting me there so I am not tempted.  My husband is picking me up early, so I don't fall into the trap of drinking and then just having one.  Home to a nice game of scrabble.  Wow, do I know how to have a good time! I am going to do it.  I smiled when I saw your post, so the extra encouragement was very welcomed.  I will check in on Monday, and I will just say NOPE this weekend.  Have a great one.

Eya/JoDee

If you two can hook-up and hang around this site together, you can both bounce off each other all the way to freedom. Quit buddies of similar quit length have a good success rate here. Recommend that you try it. You seem to have got a head start!

I am sorry to hear about your father.  My birth mother, ( I didn't meet her until much later in life) died of lung cancer at 65, so I keep thinking, you are not one of those lucky ones who can smoke until you are 85, so it is in the back of my mind.  I know your dad's death will be in the back of your mind also.  Hopefully, it will work to your favor this time.  I know I use any excuse to give myself an excuse to smoke yet another week.  One day under my belt.  I need to string a few more together.  Good for you for getting 7 days.  I will look forward to posting next week that I have 7!

Welcome JoDee :) I hope you're making it through Day 1 of your latest Quit. You can DO it!  I know what you mean about being on the millionth quit.  After awhile you almost get as much addicted to quitting as you do to smoking. Sigh!  I finally signed up here Jan 1, 2011 to see if this program could help me keep my Quit this time. But  when my Dad passed away on Jan 5, the first thing I did was drive to the store and buy a pack - I smoked & smoked!  My Dad had cancer  & even though he quit smoking at a young age, he still got lung cancer -he beat it too - but then had a relapse. It was very sad; he was a strong man but suffered much pain.  He would not be at all proud of me for taking up smoking in the name of grief on his behalf!  So sneaking puffs over the next few weeks burned a huge hole in my conscious. So I reset my Quit Meter to Feb 2 and started again.  Am on Day 7 tomorrow and have kept the Quit since! YAY! The great advice and kind words from other quitters here was invaluable to me when I went CT!  And I finally understand Nicodemon for what it is! We need to embrace Not One Puff  EVER! I think that's the difference in staying Quit instead of relapsing.  Please stay with us JoDee! Whatever method you use to quit, I hope you make it - it's one day at a time, but they sure add up !     eya
