One day, one step at a time!  My mother-in-law used to make me so angry when she said. one day you will decide.  You know what she was absolutely right.  One day I just decidedd.  I love to smoke, seriously, but one day i was just tired of all the back in forth in my mind, the worry everything.  I love being free.  It is another Friday night, I would love to have my friend nicotine join me for drinks, but you know what, it will start all the stress again.  Not going there!

Glad you jumped in, JMontgomery! Since you've been reading, you know that you're almost through the worst of it. The physical cravings should subside quite a bit any day now. Nice that the weekend is coming up (if you don't work weekends). Now you can treat yourself really really nicely - a little reward, sleeping in, maybe some exercise of your choosing, a long bath or shower, maybe a massage. After next week you can breathe a little easier, and just be wary of the triggers, applying whatever substitutions you've come up with. Congratulations on a week without cigarettes, you nonsmoker, you!

Hi everyone!  Thank you all for your posts, just having somewhere to look for inspiration and consolation makes this journey so much more bearable.
 
I started back on the dermal patches on Feb 24.  I have been convinced for the last 10 years or so that the only way I could quit was with NRT.  I think now that was junkie talk, just trying to keep a source of nicotine until the urge to quit passed. I'd say lol... but it's just not funny.  I used the dermal patch 7 years ago and was quit for 2 full years.  After breaking and going back to full time smoking, the NRT options have only worked as replacements.  I have never been able to stay quit through detox since.  Don't misunderstand me, I think that what ever program or approach works: Do It!  But I realized that nrt just wasn't working for me.  So I did what any other logical, motivated individual would have done... I pulled the plug on nicotine Feb 27.  I was sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and thought  "I'm Done".  I've been nicotine free since. Not to say it's been easy, mind you.  :)  I've spent the last week researching and reading online about the addiction and abrupt cessation.  The knowledge I've gained and the stories I've read in forums such as this have been priceless.
 
Today has been trying, and I suppose that is what prompted me to begin posting.  I'm just thankful to have somewhere to direct my attention.  :)
