The difficulties of life are intended to make us better, not bitter. -- Karen Hurst's favorite quotation. She gave me permission to be the keeper of her quote, so I'm passing it along to as many people as possible...
I am very sad to hear this news. I do believe she is in a better place and no longer suffering, but my heart goes out to the family she left behind. I too was uplifted by her sense of humor and amazing stregth.
So sorry to read of Miss Marple's passing. She was a tremendous power of example for all of us here! In spite of all her personal trials she continued to help others here with that signature sense of humor of hers! This hits home to remind us just how important it is we hold on to our quits!
There are a number of stories about our Miss Marples. Karen and I both came to this site about the same time. We both had our "slips", but kept coming back. We became good friends and would talk every now and then on the phone. In September 2009 we finally got to meet. It was wonderful. Although we only spent a little time together it was a goal I wanted. We tried to meet again, but she was sick and so was my husband and we could never find a good time. There are still several members I want to meet, but she was on the top. She had a kind heart & and wonderful sense of humor as mentioned several times.
Jan 58, Miss Marples, Windy, Penguin, Phil and I all came to SSC about the same time. I am so sorry if I am forgetting someone. This site rocked, because of the bantering that went on. We really loved one another. I find it amazing how feeling come though on this site. Rusty was our mentor :-)
The SSC family cares. When I think of Karen I think about her biting a steering wheel, her cabana boys, firemen, and many other things. I remember one time I messed up and it came across how disappointed she was, but then she became one of my biggest cheerleader. Anyway she will be missed.
The news of MissMarple's passing was very upsetting for the staff at SSC and in her memory we have posted a banner on the SSC's homepage. Please continue to post about her journey and share any quotes or stories you may have about MissMarple.
I just had to come here to express my saddness at the passing of MM. As is written below her sense of humor and grace and strength she showed had an enormous impact on alot of people.
During the early parts of my quit she was so kind and funny--she kept me here for enjoyment and company along the first couple of rocky months.
After learning of her illness-- her strength and courage were just absolutely amazing to me. She fought with courage and grace and humor (too!).
Although I didn't have the opportunity to meet MM personally, I was honoured to get to know this wonderful woman through her words and her sense of humour here at SSC. My thoughts are with her family, her friends and her colleagues during this difficult time.
