Nick.........

If it is any help to you, a lot of people go through some serious depression when stopping smoking.  For some the chemicals balance back out without much trouble and for some they don't.  If it continues talk with your doctor about what is happening.  I was right where you at for a while so I know how difficult it is to trudge forward.  Keep talking and reading and know that others understand.  Use the search feature here to look up old threads on depression, anxiety, etc.  I promise you this is temporary.  When I was there I didn't believe that but it did turn a corner.  We are with you !!!!

Hey Nick!!!

We have ALL been there!!!  The first couple of weeks you are really psyched up to do battle with the little piece of crap and then the excitement sort of wears off.  Re-commit every single day!!!  Tell yourself in the morning that what ever happens, you will NOT lose one battle to the demon!!!  I, too, promise that it WILL get better!

Review those coping mechanism you have written down!!!  I KNOW  that you have them written down, right?  Review those reasons you have for wanting to quit...  written down also, right?  Psych yourself back up and things will get easier, I promise!!!  Grab our hands, buddy!

WELCOME TO THE CLUB....................quitting smoking can be the hardest thing I have ever done,,,,and pehaps the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I quit smoking while taking a math class, so I understand the whole space out thing, I took finals with a craving like you wouldn't believe, I have to take the class agian........I can honestly say, I know exactly what your talking about........first of all I hate math, so attempting to quit while doing a math class was kindof lame, but regardless, I am 20 days smober,,,and I still have the urge to smoke when I first wake up, or after I eat something...thats normal for someone who did the same thing for 32 years, day after day........... your brain is getting more oxygen too, so its going to make things seem spacy, cuse your lightheaded. I used hypnosis... Paul McKenna....stop smoking for good........I read the book by Allen Carr "stop smoking the easy way" I read it three times........I chew on flavored toothpicks, I stay busy, I write here a lot, I try to tell people that they can do it, if I can do it,,,,,cuse I thought I would NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO QUIT................. I mean it. I was dedicated to smoking no matter what......I was a dedicated to my own brand...Virgina Slims 120's luxury lights, regular flavor,,,,,,,,for 32 years......I ordered stuff from their catalog after I would collect a ton of the usps symbols on the box, and be so proud of the stuff I would get as a "reward" for being such a loyal customer....when really the reward for being a loyal customer was worth only a portion of what I originally spent on the smokes, but the real reward was that I had to keep buying more to feed my nicotine addiction................it doesn't matter if you smoke light cigarettes, they are ALL addicting.
My reward to for quitting far outweighs the benifits I got as a smoker.............there is just too many to list. I am rooting for your success too..........Jules

Hi
put those cigarrettes in a glass full of water and smell the nasty water  every time you have a smoking tought.
I felt spaced out for the first month of my quit and with no energy at all. I also found third week really hard. But I have good news for you: It does gets better!!!!!!
Hang on my friend. Believe me. You can be happy and live life to the fullest without the nasty cigarrettes. You are in charge of your life now! Don't let Nicodemon lure you into slavery again!
I'm rooting for your success!

Nick...don't you dare smoke those cigarettes...You go pour water over them or rip them to peaces or something...I know this may sound weird but you may need to get off the zyban...When I was on the chantix it actually increased the amount of cigarettes I smoked...The more I thought about quiting the more i would smoke..Now since I stopped taking it I can go hours without the thought of one..And another thing is that Zyban is mixed with an antidepressant so they are counteracting each other as they work on the same chemicals in the brain and that could be what is causing the none stop cravings..I have dealt with the depression all my life and I know from experience that if your taking any kinda medicine and things get kooky or you feel out of sorts then the doctor would tell you to stop taking it..But to be on the safe side call your doctor and let them know what is going on with you...Also they say that when you stop smoking that you need to take time to figure out how your body will react to stop smoking...I know I have only two and a half days experience on the stop smoking but I have 20 years experience on the depression side and those medicines...I also know you wouldn't want to go through all that your feeling all over again...Go hug that daughter of yours and just tell her you love her because there is some kind miracle cure in a child's love...Stay strong and keep saying NOPE...i will pray for GOD to ease your pain but until then hang in there it can't last forever..

Nick, weeks 3 and 4 are affectionly known as the BLAH weeks.  Yeah, the physical addiction is gone after 3-4 days, but then the mental addiction keeps fighting.  And for many people its Hell part 2 and part 3!!!  Your brain and body has depended on nicotine and all the chemicals that it is readjusting itself.  Unfortunately, the nicodemon tells us that smoking again is easier and better than letting your body adjust to normal.  Talk to your doctor if needed.  Just remember that these temporary inconveniences will yield a HUGE permanent improvement!!!  We're all rooting for your continued success!

Hello Nick,

Alright, buying 10 cigarettes ??? huh, kinda sounds weird as in America we buy them in packs of 20......but on we go.....

We have never meet before but I can assure you I went through the same thing you are going through. I am a chemical laborer at my work and it consist of tallying up many figures to get the right amount of chemicals for the various detergents we produce and I found myself using a cheat sheet left beside the batch stations for those who have a hard time remembering or doing math in their heads. Do not worry! I think it was around my 50th day of not smoking I literally thought of diving out the window due to the mental stress I had put upon myself for the last 50 days leading up to my crumble.

Although, as you guessed I am still here and do not have any more thought of doing myself in as the big cigarette company would want anyways, but nevertheless. The ice water trick helps, and if you cant get to ice water then try a long lasting gum that will keep your mouth moving; therefore, tricking your mind...

I am far from the man you want to look up to or use as a roll model but keep it up as a day with out a cig is a day well spent....  The best of LUCK Brother...

Nick,

It sounds like you have experienced some pretty tough cravings. As other members suggested, it is strongly encouraged that you visit your doctor or health care professional. He or she may be able to offer further suggestions to you.

Stay close to the boards and let us know how you are doing Nick. Be well and stay strong.

Nick  Does your doctor know that you feel the way you do ? When I decided to stop smoking it took a lot out of me as well. I wanted ( or should I say obsessed on having ) a cigarette for roughly the first 6 weeks. The mental part of it can seem just as real as the physical. Have you discussed stopping smoking with your doctor ? Better days ahead.  breather breathing better.
