Hi Missmollygirl,

It's great to see that you have a great plan ahead full of fun and interesting projects to keep you busy! Distractors are crucial for a successful quit especially in the initial stages. You will feel fantastic when you see the results of all your hard work and how productive you have been since quitting!

Way to go and keep up the great work!

Keep the Quit, Miss Molly!!!!  You have your head right.  Keep your eye on the prize and watch those stats add up.
By the way, what kind of car fits into the 1/2 portion of the garage?
Dave

Thanks everyone!  I don't have much of a support group because just about everyone I know smokes.  I've been pretty isolated for the past 4 weeks.  But, I am determined to succeed for my health and well being.  I feel so much better.  I can smell, breathe, play with my dogs without getting winded.  I do have to get my blood pressure checked in two weeks, so I'm hoping this has helped.

As for rewards, I'm saving the little ones for a great big one.  In two months or so, we break ground on my new 2 1/2 car garage.  I am going to use the money I save for little upgrades.  And, I am also rewarding myself with little projects around the house that I didn't have energy for before.  After the garage, next up is painting all the outside trim work on the house.  I have learned that boredom brings on cravings, so I make sure I am busy.

And, I didn't do it cold turkey.  I am on Chantix, which is going well, except for the occasional hearburn.  And I receive daily check in calls from them and that helps remind me why I am doing this.

Molly, welcome to the SSC!   Congratulations on your success!  You've been given some great advice today!  Just remember that preparation is key to your continued success, so make sure you have gone through "my program" and that you have a reward system set up to celebrate each smoke free day and each smoke free week.  Read, read, and read some more.  Post as often as you need!  Add your quit meter to your posts from "my profile" so you can track your progress.  We're all rooting for ya!

missmollygirl,

Welcome to our wonderful support community and congratulations on making the decision to kick the habit!

Preparation is key as this is an addiction. You need to figure out how your going to deal with cravings and what new habit you'll replace smoking with. (The program will help you do all this.) You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week. They say it takes the average person 7 quit attempts before they succeed, so don't be too hard on yourself.

We're here for you 24/7 if you have questions or need some feedback. We'll help you through this every step of the way and we'll help you make it stick!

Good luck & check back soon!

congrats girl~ that is amazing, quitting drinking, smoking, and caffeine all in one shot! I also quit drinking in the beginning just because I know that when I drink I dont have as much control over myself and I usually end up smoking. And to have someone in your house that smokes as well - you should be proud of youself! Have you done anything lately reward yourself? You deserve it! Keep us updated on the progress. Any word on if the smoker is willing to give quitting a go?

Welcome.  Going outside to smoke is a great idea.  It will make your house smell better and in the long run cut down his smoking   Sounds like you are doing it, but be careful that monster is always waiting for a weak moment.  Come here and join a wonderful family of quitters.
