I to read all of your threads in the beginning, and I felt so much better afterwards. It was good to hear that somebody else struggled as I did. I too am taking sleeping meds, crazy how that seems to go haywire for almost everyone after they quit.
You really need to show yourself how much of a non smoker you are. I was so afraid to go to the casinos, but I started doing it early in my quit to prove that I was stronger, and I suppose to test myself. I won, everytime. I still have mixed emotions when I go, but I will be damned if I am going to let the cigs rule my social life. I can easily slip into a depressive state, I too am experiencing it now with the winter drolling on so long. It is difficult with no sun. I want you to know that you can beat this and you will win. You want it, you won't give it up.
Again, it is wonderful to hear from you, even though you and I have never had a formal discussion, I feel as though I know you. Take care Kev..
Kelly

My hubby quit smoking 4 years ago and is still taking a sleeping tablet at night. It doesn't always work though.
On the other hand I can sleep at night, its just that at times, I'm still at odds not always knowing what to do with myself. I work part time, and I try to get out to walk the dogs, but I'm not big on going out partying. We play darts on a Friday night, and as much as I enjoy it, I'm happy when its over. I guess it just shows me how much time I actually spent smoking over the past 27 years. This is still a learning process for me, figuring out what to do with this extra time.
I'm sure we'll all figure it out, its just going to take...well...time!
Keep going strong, Kev,
Cheers,
Jan

Kevin, thanks for coming back and sharing your story. You've shown us that perseverance can lead to non smoking success! I hope you can take some of the advice offered below to help with sleeping and some of the other issues. I know for me personally, I also lost some friends once I quit smoking as the cigarette was the only thing we had in common. But I also started doing more with my church, so I was able to meet lots of new non-smoking friends, with a better thing in common! Good Luck! You've got a great quit going and a wonderful story to share!

Although you are living the benefits of being a non-smoker, the rough patches are part of the process also. Many members have previously written about losing friends after quitting. As for the sleeplessness, have you tried drinking a calming tea an hour or so before bed? Effective herbal teas are chamomile, valerian and passionflower.
You have received great advice from members who care about your success. Your post is also very helpful for all the newbies in helping to reinforce their resolve to stay quit!
