Hi there. Welcome. First and foremost....No damage was done to your baby. NONE. my mother smoked while she was pregnant with me..i am 50 now...*she smoked the entire 9 months...no one knew back in 58 just how damaging smoking was...but i came out fine...and have been fine my whole life. Ironic though...the first chance i could - 13 years old...i picked up a cigarette...so maybe the salem cigarette smoke i was bouncing around in pre-determined this addiciton for me. So..now that we know that only active smoking can hurt your unborn - not yesterdays...you are soooooo lucky to be starting fresh. I cried every day in the beginning. every day. sometimes a few times a day. then i said "okay...6 hours have passed and i am almost through day one". i wasn't crying on day five...i was adjusting. It is a struggle, yes...i still want a cigarette from time to time and still have to remind myself that i am a non-smoker and this is not an option. How exciting for you...your first child.....you are a mom. right now...this second...you are a mom. this Mom business is bigger than a cigarette...you will protect this child from the cold and speeding cars - bad friends and stupid TV...you will dry tears and throw birthdays and possibly slam a door so loud the neighbors may raise an eyebrow or two. So..given this incredibly wonderful opportunity...you absolutely have no options but to say "thank you for this chance" and cry. cry loud. call your husband and tell him i am crying bring home Smart Food popcorn. Go buy what to expect when you're expecting. take a nap....and tomorrow...when you wake up and say "whoa...i didn't have a cigarette yesterday' you will be so incredibly proud of yourself....the next day will be easier. Or not. NotOnePuffEver has to be your new motto Mommy. I am here, we all are...good luck and buy soft tissues.
