Thank you Tresa.  I appreciate your help!  I'm actually doing a little better right now...was able to resolve on of my crisis's without smoking...now if I can just get the rest of them handled, I'll be doing a whole lot better.

You're right, he does.  But I refuse to let him win.  I beat him once, I can and WILL do it again.

Thanks!

T.h.  try to remember that smoking does nothing to help you handle the stress. When the smoke is gone the problem remains. It only postpones you working. Quitting is more than not smoking a cig anymore. It means you have to learn to handle stress in a new way. You have to face it, no more hiding behind the thick blue haze. Try to learn to just jump in and take care of problems as they arise. Your cig has not in the past and will not in the future, help you or handle for you the problems that arise. I don't recall reading if you are using anything to help you quit. I used the patch and I don't think I could have done it without it. I am a real nervous type and also used an anxiety medication from my Dr. Perhaps you may need something to help you get through the roughest time. There is no shame in it. The only real shame would be to continue to smoke. Use what ever you need to beat the nico demon. He plays dirty

Hi there!   HOLD ON.  Do not give in.   it is the hardest right now...the very beginning....if you can get through the first few hours - then days - you will be on the road to non-smoking forever.   stress is a test for sure...but keep in mind that when you are faced with stress, the first thing that kicks in is the nicotine urge...so you think "wow, i'm stressed, need a cigarette" so you run out..smoke one..and guess what?  the stress is still there.  it is a viscious cycle.  people tell me i'm calmer now...now i have the stress and need to deal with it.  plain and simple.  the nicotine urge is gone now (and i NEVER thought i would say that) the only thing left are the mental triggers...and if you have willpower and the desire to make this work...the mental triggers can make you stronger.   i smoked for 35 years and am close to a year of cold-turkey non-smoking.   keep up the fight...post often...read often....and remember...we are all here for you!

Twohazy:
Hang in there you can do this.  Take a walk get away from the situation even if for just a second.  That is what I used to do.  Keep repeating NOPE, NOPE, NOPE.

I am trying my best to handle some major stress at work right now and I feel the need to punch something.

I'm trying to hold on the best I can.  Ever get that feeling like you're on top of a building wondering if you can fly?!?!  Yea...I'm there.  (No, I'm not going to jump off the building, don't worry).  Just needing to vent a little before I go and do something stupid like buying another pack of smokes.  Don't worry, the pack I bought this morning enjoyed a nice dip in my soda glass so there's no chance of my smoking any of those.

Breathing and sucking down ice cold water as if it were going out of style.

Trying to maintain................
