Some Good News....Thought I'd share

15 years ago 0 392 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Yeah!! Mr Q!  That is great news!  I think I read on here somewhere that your chances are way better for your lungs to return to normal after 10 years of not smoking, IF, you quit before a certain age, and I think that age is 35.  So just think how dizzy we're going to be years down the road with all of that oxygen swimming around in our brains!  LOL!!  You have inspired me, as I used to be constantly worried about how old I was going to be when I developed emphysema. I was constantly worried about dying young. They told my dad last January he had emphysema and he quit for several months.  Now he smokes a pack a week.  I hope that I can inspire him to quit again.

Thank for your news, like everyone else, it has motivated me to kick this addictions a**!!

Sometime it takes getting threatened by a doctor or the results of tests to make the decision to stop smoking.  I have wanted to quit for a while, but I didn't do anything to quit until my doctor told me that I would be on Coumadin the rest of my life and be at risk for blood clots if I didn't quit.  I went cold turkey two days after my doctor told me this.  I don't want to be on meds the rest of my life.  I don't want to always be on the edge of another blood clot forming.  I don't want to have lung problems, breathing problems, other medical conditions.  I just hope I didn't quit too late!  The stories many of you have shared aren't morbid, they are real life examples of what smoking can do to your body.  As Astofan said, its motivation to keeping the quit!  Good luck to all in keeping the quit going!

Bless you, Mr. Q.  Good thing you quit smoking.  I also have damaged my lungs.  In 2006 I was told I was in the beginning stages of COPD.  I quit, but then started back.  Ended up recently in the hospital with O2 up my nose.  My lung function really sucks.  Hence, this quit.  I smoked 2+ packs a day for 36 years.  Quit smoking now and never, ever, ever go back.  The tissue you have already destroyed will never regenerate, but you can improve your lung function considerably by staying smoke free.  Congrats on 86 days and wishing you a long life of a smoke-free and healthy lifestyle!

I never told anyone here about this but I was having a really hard time breathing awhile back and a month ago I got a palmonary function test done...It went bad..The doctor told me that I had the lungs of a 56 year old and there was a good shot that I had emphasema....At 27.....Wow...I smoked a pack a day but Wow!!...Anyways they put me on some puffers and scheduled me for an appointment for today....Today I found out I now have the lungs of a 45 year old....The Dr's assistant said "That's great news."  I started laughing at her then she realized what she said and started laughing too....She said I suppose you were hoping to have the lungs of a 27 year old....I told her that I was a realistic man and knew that was impossible this soon but that I just thought it was funny to be excited about being in my forties before I'm 30....Wow too many numbers...Anyways I don't have emphasema....They say there is a shot I still might have Asthma but considering the alternative I'll take it if I do...Maybe I'll get lucky and not have either...

Anyways, besides my wife no one else knows about the tests so I felt a need to share with others and make a small point....I'm 27...The doctor said that if I had continued to smoke a pack a day it wouldn't take much longer before I got emphasema...Your never too young to get sick from this $hit so if your quit or considering quitting don't waste your life always worrying about whether your going to die or worse waste it doing so....Do yourself a favor and stop...

Anyways,  I try not to bring morbid thoughts to the group so excuse my well whatever words....Take care...
