Hi and Welcome.     I see a recommendation for Allen Carr's "Easy Way To Quit Smoking"   it is VERY helpful... well to many.    It helped to turn my thinking around..   It isn't that I still have an urge sometimes.   I do RECOGNIZE my triggers.. and WHY.

You will soon find out  your best friend was a liar, killer, thief, really smelly..  how many best friends would slowly suck the life out of you.  Take your money..  even if it was between smoking and  eating..  make you smell like some old nasty tennis shoe.. and you think you smell like  A rose..    Keep on whining and begging.. after you say NO.

Hang in there.. it isn't all easy... but you will make great friends here ... real friends who will help you overcome.

Bonnie

Howdy S,

Congratulations on quitting!!!  Losing your best friend is a common feeling and also an illusion.  It kept me addicted for quite awhile.  I'd quit for a few days, a few months, etc and couldn't bear losing my best friend.

I would recomend reading "Allen Carr's - The easyway to quit smoking" if you feel this way about it.  It will help you put things in perspective so you see things for how they really are.  It's not pictures of lung disease or hypnosis.  It's written by an ex smoker so the usual bull$hit is not in it.  Trust me, it'll be the best $20 you ever spend.  Also if your not a big fan of reading it comes in disk format.

The best way to find out whether you will lose your best friend is to take a look at someone you know who is addicted to something else and see if they feel the same.  I bet you they do.  For example:

Herion addicts consider Herion their best friend....
Alcoholics consider Alcohol their best friend.....
Chewers consider chew their best friend....

Think about that....

Take care S....Your doing great...

Welcome to SSC S, as Kelly says, it isnt the love of your life- you think it is, because I did in a way. I wondered how I would ever manage my life without 'them' in it. Yes they had been there in all the good times and all the bad, I thought they were making me feel better, I thought they were making things more enjoyable.
In reality, all they were doing was making me an addict and a slave.
Let them go- life is far more enjoyable without them, truly it is, good luck on your journey.

Welcome to the site S.  Good for you on giving up smoking.  Remember though, it really wasn't the love of its life.  Something that loves you does not destroy you.  It has been an enenmy in disguise for a very long time.  Post here often and let us know how your doing.
