What have I done

15 years ago 0 130 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I'm working pretty exclusively on the smoking addiction. I haven't changed much else. I still hang out with friends who smoke and have been in close quarters with people who are smoking. That's a fact of life, people smoke. I can't avoid it but I can deal with it.
My caffeine intake is down some, I read somewhere that smokers metabolize coffee twice as fast as a non smoker, so I figure half the coffee, same bang for the buck as before... I may have made this one up, but I seem to believe it.

Other than that the major changes are in my mind set. That's where I've been expending the most energy in this quit. My mind is pretty much hardwired to smoke right now and I don't expect that to change overnight, To me, that's the battle to be won.

Smoke-Free Days: 51
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,530

hi Freespirit,
So nice to see you again!

Looks like we had the same kind of quit. I called it spontaneous NON-combustion. hahaha.
Felt great just to slam that pack down and say "That's it!". Yep, I'm still hanging in there. The quit meter just kept going up and up which added to my resolve.  I didn't even tell my husband. Guess he finally figured it out.

The holiday weekend should be ok, don't worry about it. you will basically be through two weeks by then. You are really doing a great job so far!!!  Keep it up and stay quit!

This is kind of odd a lot of us seem like we have not told anyone right away that we were trying to quite. - this time I did not tell anyone either that I was quitting smoking.  All the other times I told my friends, I didn't even tell my husband although it was obvious that I had.  Also this time was not really planned.. I just ran out of cigs and then didn't feel like driving up to the store just to get some.   So after a few hours I thought to myself maybe now lets give it a shot again.   Well 6th day coming up and no cigs, and have have not told any of my friends.    Holiday weekend coming up which will be a challenge.

Hi Stickin,
This will be interesting to see what everyone has to say.

I too, did not tell anyone. My quit was a surprise to myself, no planning at all. I wasn't sure if I would make it so told no one for two months.

I did avoid coffee in the mornings for the first week.  Like Reggie, I avoided my mini mart attendant. He wasn't happy I quit since they had just ordered my cigarettes especially for me. Ouch. Felt badly about that one.

Also avoided driving very long distances for the first month. Driving and cigs went hand in hand for me.

And the thing I still can't do is sit on my patio. That is the scene of the crime and the only place I smoked at home. I miss it out there. I used to love to feel the day and watch it how it changed every hour. Wish I could justify running out there for five minutes every single hour or more. I work at home so I was especially attached to this spot.

Maybe I'll remember some others.  Have I understood the question correctly?

I too have kept my quit to myself during the first week.. Until now, the only ones who know are my boyfriend and my mother, both non-smokers.
-So I avoided meeting friends, who are smokers, being afraid that I wouldn't be able to resist..
-I also avoided studying until late at night, because that would trigger cravings too.
-And I didn't step foot at the mini market where I used to buy my cigarettes for the last couple of years. They must miss me a lot...
Good thing I don't usually drink alcohol and I never really combined coffee with smoking..

Yourself and others will benefit by providing a candid answers to this question:  What things or situations you avoided helped you to remain smokeless?
