I'm really hurting right now...

AK I hope you are hanging in there.  I know you wrote in the morning and the time difference between us is large.  I'm just getting up now.

The 5th day was the worst day for me by far.  It was an all day battle and at that point I was weary of it and just wanted the cravings to stop!  It was a day when I just had to accept that I had to hang in with the tips of my fingernails to that cliff and not let go.  It was exhausting and hard and I hated every second of it.  The only relief I had was finally going to bed that night.

And it passed.  And I felt stronger for it.

We are here for you.  You are doing such a great job and have such a wonderful attitude.  Write when you can and let us know how you're doing.  And use every tool you've got today.......  read, and talk to people too.
big hugs
deb

AK, mornings always sucked for me, they were tough.  Mr. Quitter is right, it is the addiction trying to convince you to smoke.  You don't want that.  I used to try and focus as hard as I could on a memory of a time when I didn't smoke and really remember how I felt.  ( I was a kid, but it still worked).  I wanted that again, a life that was free and enjoyable without a cig.  Focus on happy thoughts, laughter is good too.  Rest and take care of yourself.  Patrick has been here to tell you to drink lots of ice water.  Take really deep breathes and hold them and let them out.  Count to 10 each time in your head.  I would tell myself "in with the good"  "out with the bad" when I did this.  And most of all I prayed that I could make it through and I did.  You can do this, you will be fine.

So obviously I'm a little late for this party.  lol.  AK your doing great.  The nicotine is just trying to negotiate.  Remember there are no REAL benefits of smoking.  You are awesome AK.  Keep up the great work and kick some ash.

Hi Msreader,
I'm sorry to hear you are having a rough time of it today.  Coming here is a great way to delay the crave and to distract your mind for a bit... and get some encouragement!

Cold Turkey is right! You are so close to getting to the end of Hell Week and things will get so much better as you go along.
In your first post, you talked about how being a smoker was really getting you down. You will have such a boost to your life and self esteem if you hang in there!

Maybe have a warm cup of green tea? I used to like the feel of something warm in my hand when I first quit. Take a walk around the block?  Play a game on the computer?  Good to find a distraction if you can.

Others will be along soon to give you some more ideas and encouragement. Stay close to this site, read back through old posts to get suggestions.

You are doing such a great job so far of staying quit... keep going!!! One moment, one day at at time!!!

Hi msreader!

I'm new here too, so I don't now how much I can help..
But I'd like you to know I'll be here for you too, like so many others!
When I need a smoke, I usually drink lots of water or - and this works best for me - loads of orange juice! If it doesn't work I just say NO and I think about the hard times my family had about a year ago when my sister got sick. (she's just fine now)

Hang in there, we're all on your side!

Goofy has a great suggestion of coming here, posting an waiting for a response before going for a cig.  I'm craving a smoke right now - probably the worst since I quit.  Just wondering if anyone was out there right now?
