I too miss sitting in my back yard with a nice glass of wine and chain smoking myself to death. But you know what...it's nice to actually taste the wine instead of that nasty tobacco And my time alone is just as nice--and much more relaxing--without the sticks.

And you know what I like more? Being able to walk without being winded, not smelling like an ashtray, not spending $50/week on my addiction...

Wow, a book, a sunny breeze and a cig...I used to do that a lot myself.  I, like you, would chain smoke during a good book without even realizing I was doing it.  You can get through this, you really can.  We all have eachothers back, so make sure you check in regularly so we don't worry!

Hi again,
Glad to see that you are hanging in there! Isn't it wonderful how many people want you to succeed? Everyone (many you have not met yet) are in your cheering section.

Sounds like you have a busy day with lots of chores lined up. Don't forget to work in the REWARDS for not smoking.
The more rewards the better.... they help to rewire your brain which is probably feeling haywire right now.

I used to smoke out on the patio too. I loved seeing the day. Also I had squirrel friend out there who would always beg for a treat. Well actually, she started taking my lighters! Somewhere in the trees is a highly flammable nest! Figured that was a sign that it was time to quit.... LOL.

Hang in there, take breaks, drink water and don't forget the rewards!
We are all here if you need a boost anytime.

Wow!  Thank you so much all of you.  You are all truly inspiring!  In answer to your questions, I'm going cold turkey.  For two main reasons,  #1 I can never remember to take meds regularly, and #2 I thought the quickest way to do this would be no NRT.

I'm trying to force myself into new "normalcy".  Does that make sense?  I'm a stay-at-home-mom (or as Tresa put it - a domestic goddess).  My escape has always been to read and smoke on my patio/porch.  The combination of these made for the sweetest past-time on earth and a perfect escape from my hectic life.  After all, the kids could never come out and join because I didn't want them around the smoke.  My husband is a smokeless tobacco man, so he never really wanted to be outside.  It was total, indulgent me time.

On the flip side of the bliss, I chain smoked the entire time.  And in the name of "needing my fix", I spent more and more time outside.  It turned from being a nice escape to neglecting life.  I was wheezing and hacking to boot.   Not to mention my kids saw it all.

So now I'm cold turkey.  Forcing myself to post online, or do laundry, or sweep the floor when I'm craving.  I'm trying to force myself to work through the nervousness and the irritability (and boy am I irritable) very, very quickly.  I want a new normal as soon as possible.

Thank you again for listening.  It's really funny, this need to talk about all aspects of it.
AK

Hello Msreader,
You have found a great site to quit and stay quit. The people here are so helpful.

Yes, this is such an addiction to fight. Everything that you say is true. There are never enough puffs to feed the addiction, it's actually easier and less stress to not  feed it.  That was my big surprise when I quit.

Stay here with the SSC, be sure to post  anytime you like.
Welcome!

Hello Msreader and welcome to SSC.
You sound so determined this quit, and maybe this is because now you have considered the future as a smoker- because all those awful things you listed will happen the longer you stay addicted. I can say that, because I have had most of the things on the list, its a fact that smoking does do those things to us, and the only way to halt the damge is to cut the habit- harsh but true.
You didnt say how you are quitting whether its with NRT or just plain going it alone, but coming by here, daily if necessary, is a very powerful tool in helping us to succeed- I know it was for me.
There are such a variety of quits amongst our members that someone somewhere will have the experience to answer any questions you may have, or offer the support you may need.
Let us support you on your journey and share in your success- congratulations on making the decision to be smoke free for yours and your childrens future and good luck.
