Behind the scenes - reflections on one month - my (earned) ramble

Life is going to have it's stresses, true, and for those of us who dealt with it by firing up a cigarette each time, can find it rather trying, especially when that was the only way we knew how to cope. You held on and you fought, coming out a winner. I'm proud of you. You're an excellent quitter. Congratulations to you.

Damn man congratulations on one heck of a month. Even though I'm only 19 I think I've seen pretty rough spots in my life too and that was my excuse for starting to smoke when I was about 16 or 17.

Now 2 years later I've decided to quit. My grandma had emphysema and my mother now also has that and basically is divorced because of it. So I decided I'm not going the same route even if that means I'd have to lose all friends, learn new habits, suffer for a while etc.

Gives me inspiration to just continue and continue and once more continue living a smoke-free life!

bj2705 - I'm sorry to hear your news but I'm glad things are going well. I'll be thinking of you.

Patrick - sonny boy gets it as much as any 18 year old gets it - that is... HE HAS NO CLUE!!!

Seriously, he a perfect teenager - he makes all kinds of mistakes. Life is never boring. He does understand that if John Law calls again he's on his own. I told him in no uncertain terms that everybody gets one chance. He's had his.

Yeah I had a heck of a month, but that's life right? I see people all the time that seem to be in crisis every second. Every little thing adds stress to their lives. Gotta get this paper done, then pick up the kids, then do this, then do that... The thing I have learned is this....

That stress you are feeling is called life. It's gonna keep on happening. Forever! Zero stress means you're clinically dead. I'll take the stress thanks.

Once again it's time to go to work here in the wonderful state of New Hampshire, and once again I will get through this day as a non-smoker.

Everyone have a great smoke free day!!!! I'll check in later.

Hey, Cyber!  I just want to congratulate you on toughing out your first month. Getting past all those real triggers must have been hell but you did well and reinforced your quit.  Hope you have a really clean-air time in Maine with the family and more space to move around in now that your bud has dropped out of his obligation deal with you! What a Richard Head!
Hope sonny has learned his lesson. Does he get it that he hurts everybody and not just himself when he messes-up!?

Patrick

Great job... and my husband and I also go news.. on my first day of my quit.. That his mom has lung cancer...

I decided to dedicate my quit to her....    She is going thru chemo and doing amazingly well.

Learning that smoking doesn't change or help an outcome.. is very important.

You are doing  a fantastic job... big hugs, Bonnie

An amazing month!!  You have shown us that live does happen whether you smoke or not.  But you were put to the test from the get go.  I think that was a good thing.  In the beginning we focus so much on quitting and nothing is going to make us smoke and you showed us that.  I think too that having some rough spots and getting though them make our resolve that much stronger.

Each quit is different and I do understand wanting to keep a positive attitude as not to make others feel bad, but be careful.  I found out that you have to let others know we have our ups and down.  I am still uncomfortable letting the new comer know about all my slips, because I don't want them to use that as an excuse to smoke again.

But I am so proud of you and your first month.  I see many more coming your way.

Keep the Quit
Sparky

CyberDuke,

WOW--you have had a lousy month! Thank you for openly sharing the difficulties & that each thing can be dealt with without the smokes. Life happens whether we smoke or not.....

Each 'crisis' I faced not smoking made me stronger...it convinced me that I could deal with life without the smoke screen. This was probably one of the most difficult realties of my quit. I am still in awe of the fact that I can face emotions, crisis, happiness and sadness  without smoking. It really is quite amazing.

You have certainly proved that you can be dealt major stress and still not smoke even early in your quit. You have to want to be quit, more than you want to smoke..

CybrDuke,

This is an amazing post! Thanks for sharing all of your experiences with us. We hope that you've also had some positive ones during this month. Your story helps show that smoking doesn't make things better, it will not help you through a stressful situation, it will not make an angry client less angry, but you will feel better if you can make it through all of these situations smoke free.

Enjoy all of your benefits and rewards!
