I do not want to be to graphic but the stuff coming out of my lungs is not to pretty....lets just say you could probably put wall paper up with it. I know...gross. Deep Breathe.....thanks for telling me about this site and the gum. Your always a great help and inspiration. Other then that I am off today and am going to do some cleaning around here. HYPPPPERRRR! Post again tonight. Have a great smoke free day folks and thanks for the tips all! :-)

It's a few day's since I posted also I think you are all doing great. I think Lainey's suggestion is terrific. And Patrick is right it's good not having to worry about not having enough cigs. I find this one of the better sides of not smoking not always thinking about the next fix not getting frustrated because I can't get to go outside for to smoke. I still get day's when the craving is pretty bad but I would rather have  an occasional urge to smoke than a constant wish to stop.

Patrick love the pictures

Hey Thriving! One of the most helpful things for quitting smoking has to be changing up your routine! It works at home, the office and wherever! If social situations are hard there are a few things you can do.
#1 Don't drink, at least for a month or so until you feel stronger in your quit. (If you MUST have something, stay away from your favorites and try something new that your brain won't associate with cigarettes.)

#2 Go to a new venue, one not associated with smoking, again, your brain won't associate new places with smoking.

#3 Change the arrangements of furniture, move your computer desk around, even little changes help fool the brain and it alleviates the memory craves.

#4 Keep an arsenal of gum, candy, stir stix, whatever is is that you can chew and use it insterad of!

#5 If all else fails, ask your friends to give you a couple of weeks of stay at home grace to help gain strength in your quit!
If they are real friends, they won't mind a bit!

Most of all read all you can here, there are tons of tother tips in these posts!

Hey everyone, just a quick post before I hit the hay. Well, another day without smoking. I am truly taking this one day at a time best I can. I realize its about changing my thinking. Not letting those negative thoughts in or when they do come changing them fast. Remembering when so to speak. Remembering what it was making me feel like smoking. Anyways, it was one hot day here and I drank alot of water and chewed some Thrive Gum to get me by. Work hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. I thought I would be freaking there. I realized that alot of it is to do with my thinking. I have to try to try to be positive. Thats all for today folks. Thanks for all the great words of encouragement! Nite! :-)

I've missed a few days of posting so I see that there are quite a few new folks in here starting their quits and dealing with the first week without nicotine... I just want to say Congratulations to all of you ( Thriving, Cold Turkey, Trixyh, Cyber Duke and Kasi) for preparing yourselves well for the struggles with the withdrawals and the subsequent cravings after the nicotine has been flushed from your bods!!
With or without NRT - it doesn't matter.  It's whatever suits you and helps you to break that addiction to nicotine and the body-gestures and ceremonies of fiddling with cigarettes and packs and lighters and ashtrays!! Learning how to adjust to living without including all those things in your life is the challenge. Leaving the house and not having to worry about having them with you (or the $10 to buy a pack and a lighter) is a great thing to notice about ourselves and to congratulate ourselves on.Think of all the years you've dragged that paraphernalia around from pillar to post and notice that we don't have to do that anymore!!

thrivingincanada,

I'm so glad to hear that you had a great day! You are doing such a great job, drinking water instead of having a cigarette must have made you feel so good (your body is probably thanking you!). Sounds like a fresh start for you, keep up the great work, and stay strong!

Cold Turkey, thanks for sharing! You are a true inspiration to others

Have a great smoke free day everyone!
