Desperate - I'm Going to Give In

16 years ago 0 46 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I had a cigarette.  After I finished it my husband asked me what I got out of it.  I said it got rid of my craving.  That's all I wanted, to get rid of the craving.  Today's not a very good day for me.  I'm feeling really down and I can't seem to get a positive attitude going.  I just wish I had never started the quit.  Now I feel like such a failure.  My husband is so disappointed with me.  He blames himself for not being able to help me.  It makes me angry.  I know he wants to be my strength, my rock and he believes that when I don't do well it's his failure.  That puts a ton of pressure on me to do well.  Sometimes I just get so tired of the fight.  Tired deep down into my very spirit.  I've gotta go.  I'm not feeling very well.

Trooper,

You can get through this. You are a trooper! If you feel the urge, or are tempted to slip:

AVOID the situation.
Identify the situations when you normally smoke or chew, or feel cravings. For most, high-risk situations include work breaks, finishing meals, having coffee or being in a bar. Plan how you will avoid these situations for a few weeks. Plan for alternate activities.

LEAVE the situation.
If you find yourself in one of these high risk situations, leave if you can. And, leave before you get a craving.

DISTRACT yourself from the craving.
If you find yourself in a situation you can't leave and you get a craving, distract yourself from the craving by: Thinking about something else, like your Benefits of Quitting (or how much money you’re saving every week, how your body is healing itself). Doing something else to distract yourself like drinking water or deep breathing exercises. Thinking about an upcoming event in your life, such as a vacation.

DELAY acting on the craving
If you can't keep your mind off it, then make a deal with yourself that you will wait 5 minutes before you give into the craving. The craving will usually pass in a couple of minutes anyway. If you delay, the craving will go away.

Use SELF TALK
A craving may be accompanied by negative thoughts about your ability to resist it. Use positive self talk statements to combat your negative thoughts.

Trooper you will get through this. Stay strong!

Trooper!!

What is it that you will gain from smoking? At this point all the chemicals are out of your body. You have inspired so many others. I wish my wife had joined the site because she's only one day behind me and I'm sure she can relate better with you than me. She sent me out to get her cigarettes and I came back with ice cream. She got even more angry. I'd rather have her be mad at me than smoke. Living is so much better than arriving in an early grave.

Be strong Trooper, we need to have you around.

Ron

This is so hard.  I checked the neighbours flowerpots.  No butts.  Someone threw an empty pack of cigarettes on our yard.  I just keep crying because I want one so bad.  I feel like I'm loosing my mind over wanting a cigarette.  We have friends coming over tonight, I have the house to clean.  I'm crying, I'm sad, I'm angry.  I feel like I'm just going to tear a strip off my husband.  I just want to go to the store and buy a pack and get it over with.  I'm a wreck.

Trooper, Hi,

Go and take a warm bath and lie back and let the tension roll off you from head to toe... drink some iced water and tell yourself that "I want to live without Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease..." Repeat that over and over and then take some deep breaths and stay in the bath until you've gathered your self back into your self and "get" what it you're doing by not smoking ever again....

The cravings/thoughts will dissipate. Stay warm and get into bed for a while....

Not One Puff Ever.

Trooper,

You are 112 days into your quit.  IF you smoke even 1 cig you will have to start all over will hell week.  Let's fight this together!  Find anything that will take your mind off smoking.  Sugar free gum/candy, water, a walk anything...  Sit down and right down all your reasons for quitting... sometimes seeing it in writing helps.  Read through the program here again... read post and write posts if that keeps your mind off of smoking...  You can do this!!!

I've been having a rough go of it the last few days.  I've just been waiting for the days to end so I could get to sleep and not think about wanting a cigarette.  I want one soooo bad.  I've been thinking seriously about raiding the neighbours flower pot for a good butt.  I'm so angry at my husband because he keeps telling me I can cry, scream, do anything but have that cigarette.  He's getting quite angry with me too because all I want is that one cigarette.  I think he thinks I'm not trying.  I know I have to keep fighting but I want so much to give in.  I want so much to just have that one cigarette.
