Enough is enough Ive been threw hell these last few weeks with quitting and not quitting . After reading alot of theswe posts I finally realize that its not up to My Doctors or no smoking aids that Im going to quit its up to me and my ability to control my addiction or not so either I smoke or I dont. which shall it be. Not smoking is definitely alot healthier. I own my own business a sign company and things can get pretty stressful however Im finding that smoking just adds to that stress. Please give me all of your support that I may quit this awful habit once and for all. I just finished reading a great post the prayer of serenity. We used to pray for my alcoholic father. Now I can use it to beat this addiction to cigarettes. Thanks and heres to a successful quit I'm going to start right now by destroying the pack of smokes I just purchased. Ill check back in with you in a couple of hours. Thank you ever so much for your support in the past and hopefully in the future. :8o:  [quote] I found this elsewhere and thought it might help someone here ... Keep it simple yes? A good reminder to stay humble and open. I have been with so many friends for one thing or another, went into 12 step programs. I at the time sat there and smoked away, as did most of them. My one good friend who quit all kinds of things, I mean the lady was a mess, we were not even friends any more. She has been clean five years now and last time I saw her I asked about the cig smokes, how did she quit??? I was in full tears crying and begging her to give me direction, right after the conversation I went outside and lit up a ciggie. My friend sat there and laughed at me as I coughed. She told me the truth in her case. Giving up Alcohol was not that bad, giving up massive amounts of narcotics was hard but not that bad, giving up smoking cigarettes? She had the hardest time. By far she said it was the most invasive and hardest thing to quit. Waiting as I was I had to ask her so where is the magic quit how did you quit? " Don't smoke". It was that simple and it is that simple and that was the day I came back to this site. Join a group of quitters and stay close to one another, take what you can from one another, and yes, honor up and spill your gutts if you have too, just don't smoke. I did not mean to ramble, yet I have some of that can't sleep stuff going on... It is odd as a smoker I always was so tired, and now i am lucky to fall asleep for four hours. I do feel tired and I know this will change, everyday it does change. ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY. It would be rather well spoiled rotten and idiot like for me to believe that a 20 plus year smoking a pack plus a day habit could be perfect after a couple weeks? it is funny but some how I thought it would be?? Ha Ha Ha Ha....Nah, there is a lot more to go in this journey... I hate being bored, at least it is not boring... A little insomnia? Coughing up a lung? Hmmmmm.? Work it work it work it work it!!! I am becoming free? I deserve to live, I deserve to not die from smoking, I deserve to have my power and strength tested, I deserve to fully understand the "serenity prayer." I deserve these things because as far as I am concerned, I am stronger then my addiction to cigarettes, if I have help. I do. So there is no excuse at all for me what so ever. Whoopeee...I am free. Work it work it

I found this elsewhere and thought it might help someone here ... The Serenity Prayer for Smokers God grant me serenity, to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change... As smokers trying to stop smoking, we cannot change the craving for cigarettes, but even if we can't change the craving, we can accept it. The truth is that until we can accept our craving for cigarettes, we will not stop smoking. Lighting another cigarette is what we do if we decide we cannot accept the craving! It's that simple: If you want a cigarette and you will not accept the craving, then you will surely light a cigarette. Or maybe you will have "one puff" to get you through, but even one puff is "not accepting" the things that you cannot change. Accepting the craving does not mean we want the craving or like it. Accepting it means, first, recognizing the craving for what it is: a strong desire, physical or psychological, not a need, for a cigarette. That's all. We do not fight this craving- rather we look at it, letting it be, not getting panic stricken or feeling sorry for ourselves, but saying, "Yes, I really am craving a cigarette right now." We do not practice self-deception and try to trick ourselves into thinking we don't want to smoke. This is an honest program. Nor do we try to hate the habit (or ourselves) so much that we quit. No, we cannot make ourselves stop smoking, but we can live with the craving, and so we pray for... The courage to change the things I can... The thing that we can change is our unwillingness to live, even for a short time, with the craving for the next cigarette. We can, with God's help and the support of the group, change our old way of dealing with craving, and we deal with it in a new way: We become willing to live with the craving; we no longer light a cigarette to get rid of the pain of craving. Our lighting up shows that we have not accepted what we cannot change and have not acted with the courage to change the things we can. Of course, living with a craving is hard, sometimes very hard, but you are not alone - with God's help you can do it. That is what this Serenity Prayer is all about.

This is a wonderful post, Zyban. I have heard and used this Serenity Prayer for years, but only recently came across the full version, written by Reinhold Neibuhr in 1926. The Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)Complete, Unabridged, Original Version. God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, Courage to change the things which should be changed, and the Wisdom to distinguish the one from the other. Living one day at a time, Enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, Taking, as Jesus did, This sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it, Trusting that You will make all things right, If I surrender to Your will, So that I may be reasonably happy in this life, And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
