Yeah Kev - I went through the same with my doctor. I've been reading this book over the last couple days that kind of reinforces my belief that there's nothing wrong with allowing yourself to "feel", even if what you feel isn't always considered good. This book even suggests that those of us that can allow ourselves to feel everything are far more fortunant than those that keep striving for constant happiness. Hi Gen, Nice to see you too. I'll keep posting and keep on keeping on. I hope you do the same. The smiling seagull is a joy to see. Its not nagging to me. :) If it is, its done so nice that I don't know it. I appreciate you keeping on top of me because I have a habit of letting the junkie get its own way. Whilst my junkie is taking a break and I am posting :) ... One of the very best things about staying quit is not the money or the time. Its not the white teeth instead of english milk coloured teeth. Its not the extra days I might live. Its about being able to still communicate with my friends here. Its reading about Bear and his landlady misadventures, its about finding out what a bowflex is, its about getting great advice, getting confused and then getting clarity again. Its about encouraging new quitters to at least give it a go and then supporting them no matter what. I am not all doom and gloom you see (yes I am attempting to justify it to myself). Thanks for checking up on me and making me feel that I hadn't outstayed my welcome yet. I am glad to be back and writing..and yes I missed you all. Sue no need for that bottom beating yet :) Tresa, sorry if I have not replied to any notes yet. I am looking for some good photos and a working home computer (its on the blink at the moment). Hi guys. I hope all is good on your respective sides. You may have guessed that I have been keeping quiet of late. Of course still avidly reading but at the same time coming up with excuses not to post in true junkie fashion. It happens to me every now and then. I'd like to be the one cheering people up and not bringing them down. Misty, your post is very good indeed. I know we really haven't crossed paths here too much but I do read your posts quite often. It is strange because I had been thinking about the whole sweeping things under carpets and pretending everything was ok. You know the whole 'Maybe most of my issues are unsolvable and I should give up trying to tackle them and go back to putting them under a carpet of smoke'. My inability to handle conflicts or stress well is the real reason as to why I smoke. Just watching a football match or listening to a heated conference call drives me to cigarettes. Hence I cannot watch football games and just squirm whilst listening to heated debates. Its my inability to handle this that keeps me away from ever getting help via doctors or anything else...with the exception of here. Because I can write, delete, rewrite and say things in a very calm manor and to be honest, I like everyone here. That'll be one of the issues that Greger was talking about. Btw, I did once do the write words down and give them to doctor thing (mainly because I would burst into tears or just say that everything was fine when it clearly wasn't) last time. I just got the old delaying tactic of 'if you still feel this way, come back in a couple of weeks'. That was it for me, I wasn't going back again. So here I am, swaying between forgetting I ever quit and taking the shame of failing (in my parents eyes) and then getting ribbed by my work mates or talking myself out of it by saying 'just make it this hour. You can do it' (But not sure why I am doing it, I guess I still believe in short term pain for long term gain). Usual Kev stuff really. I've not found the thinking off switch yet. :) The good news is that I made the whole of my hols smokefree with plenty of distractions and may settle back down after a couple of weeks. Thanks to all who's help was much appreciated. Hey Kev, don't go thinking that you are "broken" or something because you're different than others. There's a couple of things that i've learned in my life - for one, just because others aren't as vocal about their problems doesn't meen they don't have them. In fact, many of them might very well be in denial about it all! lol I had this very very good girlfriend for many years and we were very close, and I used to call her up and vent about my husband or about my family, and she'd be sympathetic and offer advise as though she had everything all together, you know? She would talk about her bright and sunny childhood and how wonderful her husband was, and she had a peachy life. Then one day she let it slip that she had to bail her husband out of jail 3 months after they were married because he had solicited a prostitute, and then I noticed that her marriage wasn't as perfect as I had thought. Then a couple years later her father died, and when I asked what from, she got very silent, and then blurted out that he had died of a drug overdose, and confessed he had been addicted to speed for a very long time. She just burried all of those things, never talked about them, never thought about them, and boom - they didn't exist for her. I would be willing to bet that this is more common than we realize. I happen to very verbal about my life and it's issues. Unfortunantly more verbal about the problems than the joys I guess, and suddenly found that all of the people I knew online thought I lived some life full of misery, was seriously mentally ill, couldn't make a decision, couldn't solve a problem, couldn't take care of myself, nothing. Then at one point I found myself perfectly content and in need of nothing, and then you know what happened? All of my online friends refused to let me out of the depressed box and kept commenting to me as though I had posted a tragedy and they eventually left. LOL! At any rate - many many many people believe that asthetics evolve from misery, and many many many of our world's greatest artists, musicians, poets, and etc. were misserable for much of their lives. Sadness and self evolving are creative forces - just because our world has seemingly forgotten that, doesn't make you a broken soul. I don't know you well (and i'm nto labeling you miserable!), and I honestly didn't even notice anything but possitive stuff in your posts but figured something must be amiss when I read the replies, so I just wanted to let you know that I think you're alright! It takes all of us to keep the world turning round and round, and not one of us is broken or damaged goods - we're just different, and in this world that's hell bent on insisting that everyone be sunshine and roses all the freeking time (and even write about the pursuit of such happiness in the American constitution), it can be rather difficult to feel like you have a place in our world if you're not all sunshine and roses all the time because you end up lablelled and shoved in a corner and told to get over yourself. The only label you should ever wear is "Different and Proud" and don't you ever forget it!
